Trump's Second Term

Mrs. Resume and I received our mail ballots today.

Suck it, Orange man.
Mrs. Mike! and I got ours yesterday, and they'll be going to the post office tomorrow morning.
100% blue as possible. Took the day to look into anyone that didn't make their political persuasion known, or who was behind some of the referendums that hadn't made the airwaves, and why.
Southern Illinois is pretty red, so we'll see how it shakes out locally in the end. JB Pritzker is hated. But Daren Bailey is an openly Trump loving moron, so hopefully JB prevails.

I'd be shocked if that idiot Bailey wins. 'Course I said that about Trump.

He's just so ◊◊◊◊◊◊◊ stupid.
A few years back there was a letter to the editor of Qlds largest tabloid that extolled the virtues of that state not using DST, to whit,

“The bushfires we’re experiencing would be much worse if we had an extra hour of daylight”

It was not tongue in cheek… smh

Trump leaning over:

Below that:
Im a physical therapist with a doctorate and 15 years experience in my field of taking care of geriatric patients suffering from dementia. It’s my professional opinion that this is a classic case of three muppets in a trench coat sneaking into a movie theater.

The case against the olympian arrested for vandalizing the reflecting pool has been dismissed with prejudice. So even if Trump threatened Pirro's family if she didn't try to prosecute him she couldn't do it.

The arcons, who were handwaving of this initial failure in this case were putting their money down on all the other 'vandalism' cases Trump claimed were going to happen. They are suddenly quiet on this as no other vandalism cases have been brought.

15 million was spent on this debacle. Remember when GOP congressmen cried "waste" because the park put in some cheap wooden steps so ducklings could get out of the pool and not drown?

What a lot of fuss for something that is probably a misdemeanor for which th worst can happen is being fined.

luckily pistol pete hegseth is on the case, although military.com isn't really buying it

oh

oh yeah

well something kind of stinks here, doesn't it?
Re Hesgeth's one day standown for voters. He might be surprised at how members of the military might vote this time around, given how depsised he is in the military.

I hope that it's true how despised Hegseth is in the military, because I really fear that the Trump and Hegseth attempts recently to politicize the military presages an attempt to abort the next election with martial law. I never thought I could consider such a thing seriously, but every time I think it can't get any worse it does.

I actually think giving up the time change is not such a bad idea, but geez, how many words need to be wasted on this, and why do we need a new fancy name for it all? Can't we just stop changing the clocks and shut the **** up?

IIRC, it was tried by Nixon in 1974 (because of the oil embargo at the time), and it didn't work out that well, especially in Florida:

(SNIP)
But the shift raised concerns soon as it took effect on Jan. 6, 1974. One was the safety of children walking to school in the morning, after eight children in Florida were involved in predawn car accidents in the wake of the time change, leading a TV commentator to coin the phrase “Daylight Disaster Time.” Reader letters to TIME provide a glimpse at the general opposition to the change. “Little children walking to school in the dark? No, mothers are driving them. This is saving energy?” Lynn Ward of St. Joseph, Mich., wrote. “No matter how Congress legislates, there are only a limited number of hours of daylight. We on the western edge of a time zone are using more electricity to cope with the extra hour of morning darkness than we did with the hour of evening darkness.” Perhaps referring to Watergate, the other crisis taking up Nixon’s energy at the time, Marianna Byg of Columbus, Ohio, joked, “the Nixon Administration has not seen the light for so long that it thinks it fitting for the rest of the population to be in the dark at least part of the time.”

President Trump's remarks were explicitly specific to the 737 MAX, which first flew in 2016 and didn't enter service until 2017.
The 737 structural design has been unchanged.

Have you decided who you are going to vote for?

To be fair (yes I know that's difficult with this pillock) he does say

most people like having an hour of extra sunlight in the evening, rather than in the morning.

so it seems like he does understand there's a tradeoff. But, as ever, he gives no evidence of his claim. It might well be that most people would indeed prefer lighter evenings and darker mornings to the opposite, but It's highly dependant on how the question is asked. Ask people if they'd prefer to continue having an extra hour in bed in the mornings in winter so they don't have to get up in the dark so often and you might get a different answer.

Republicans in the Senate have to get moving on what I call the “No More Changing of Clocks Act,” officially known as The Sunshine Protection Act, a ridiculous Clock changing process that takes place twice a year, costs our Country a fortune, is bad for Crime, stress on people, Sports, and just about everything else you can imagine.
Even the highly respected PGA Commissioner, Brian Rolapp, needs it for the completion of Golf Tournaments in the Winter, when they just plain run out of sunlight.
People don’t want to go around changing their Clocks anymore and, besides, far and away, most people like having an hour of extra sunlight in the evening, rather than in the morning.
The House has passed this Bill, 308-117, on July 14, 2026, with Great Bipartisan support. Both Democrats and Republicans want it to happen. It’s now up to the U.S. Senate where it would be another Great Bipartisan Victory. Unfortunately, it’s being held up by Senator Tom Cotton, of Arkansas, for reasons unknown.
People are sick and tired of having to change their Clocks twice a year. Even most farmers would rather have additional time in the evening to harvest their crops. It is foolish, inconvenient and, in some cases, very costly. For Cities and States with Watchtowers, and hard to reach places, it costs Millions of Dollars.
A recent case was made that it is also bad for your health in the anxiety it creates. Leading Medical, Crime, and Economic Studies have shown, conclusively, that ceasing the biannual time change, giving us one extra hour of natural sunlight in the evenings, will help Decrease Robbery and Murder Rates, Reduce Car Accidents (especially those involving Pedestrians!), Lower Risk for Cardiac Issues, Stroke, and Seasonal Depression, Make It Safer for Children to Walk Home from School, Increase Time with your Family, Strongly Support Extracurricular Activities, Boost the Sports, Fitness, Tourism, Retail, and Restaurant Industries (and more!), and Save Money on Energy Bills, because everyone will be enjoying an EXTRA HOUR OF DAYLIGHT.
In other words, leave it as it is now, and never change it again. But importantly, with a 100% approval rating, is that NOBODY wants to change their Clocks twice a year. This is an issue that Republicans, Democrats, and Independents can unite behind!
President DONALD J. TRUMP
Not a single chance in Hades did Donny personally thumb in that post.

It seems to me the simplest solution to children being out in the dark is that schools should start later, like the children's sleep schedules need it to.

Then parents would complain about scheduling conflicts with their work. Of course we could reschedule everything to suit people rather than employers but that obviously won't happen.

I can't understand why changing the clocks is bad for crime. Do bank robbers forget to change their clocks, and show up when the bank has closed? But the idea that Trump wants to remove something that is bad for crime is entirely plausible …
