UK claims to have foiled 'terrorist' plot against airbase

The only problem seems to be the police worked out it was just a gang of cheap thieves and bailed them while all the usual blowhards were still screaming at the top of their lungs that there was an establishment conspiracy not to tell us they were brown Muslim terrorists who had arrived on a small boat and had been staying in luxury hotels at the taxpayers expense with all kinds of free stuff while they plotted against us.

It was clearly a false flag operation designed to make the right-wing loudmouths look stupid. Burnham is finished.

May be a cultural difference you get when you don't have police chiefs who need to get themselves re-elected.

Unfortunately we still have the lying, grifting politicians who are only interested in feeding red meat to their motonic, Daily Telegraph reading followers. Oh, and while the division seeding rage-bait disinformation said politicians are putting out may seem very similar to that issuing from Russia, and even if said politicians may have previously echoed Russian talking points and associates of theirs may have been jailed for taking money to voice remarkably similar talking points, as of this time they've never actually been shown to have taken Russian money as of this date so I'm sure it's just a coincidence.

Once again: the police/UK authorities will not tell us it isn't a terrorism case until they have completely ruled out that possibility, which the comments I quoted previously suggests they have not yet done to their satisfaction. Though the fact they released the five men they arrested on bail strongly suggests they have at least ruled out the possibility that those five individuals are terrorists.

What "current narratives" anyone else has constructed will not affect the ongoing investigation, its conclusions, or the timescale in which those are made public.

What's a scenario where this is a terrorism case but they aren't terrorists?

No source for this claim is given.

One of five men arrested near RAF Fairford in the early hours of Sunday morning had dialled 999 himself, the BBC understands.

The suspect called the police at 00:45 BST, almost an hour before a female farmer also dialled 999 after seeing men in balaclavas

See post #228.
“[Police] think the guys they've bailed might have been used in some way.” Ok. What way? That’s what I mean by a scenario. “Some way” doesn’t rise to the level of a scenario.

I have no idea what scenario they have in mind because I'm not telepathic. If I had access to the information which led them to consider it a possibility I might be able to duplicate their reasoning. But I don't.

So all I can do is speculate wildly that common thieves might be persuaded or manipulated into practicing their thievery in a particular location where they would, knowingly or unknowingly, trigger a major international incident. I could also speculate wildly as to the motivations of those responsible in such a scenario, but I'll leave that as an exercise for the reader.

What are you talking about? Trump isn't the supervisor of anyone in the UK. And why isn't a supervisor in the UK confirming publicly that this wasn't a terrorist incident? And to be very clear: I'm not saying this because I think it was a terrorist attack. I'm saying this because I think the UK government has a serious problem with being transparent. You can't blame Trump for that.
Right.....
Firstly, the Orange Rapist has mouthed off about foreign actors and terrorist plots, few have the moral courage to say to the Rapist-in-chief that he's an idiot and his story is nonsense.
Secondary, after a major over-reaction response, it's hard for bureaucrats to frantically back-pedal and admit it was a few petty criminals.

No explosives.

Consider Rubio's statement earlier. He walked the terrorism claim back, but he left open a suspicion of fiendish foreign involvement somehow...
There is. Large numbers of foreign, fighting-age, followers of a middle-Eastern religion:
In fact, quite a lot of Americans who have deployed here actually come to mass and some of the permanently deployed Americans are full members of the parish.

To be honest, I don't see the problem there. Suspicious activity next to an active major air base, big anti-terrorist response, false alarm this time, well done everybody, can't be too careful, home for tea and medals. The only people who come out of that looking foolish would be those who announced as true things they did not know and which were false.

Completely agree, but as I've previously said, announcing that it wasn't terrorism then finding that either it was, or it it was linked in any way whatsoever, would be very embarrassing indeed. Far better to keep quiet until all the facts are established.

If the fact that it wasn't terrorism wasn't established, why release them on bail?

If it was, why not announce that?
