Merged Arday life and death

That does seem to be the most likely explanation, given everything else we know.

But also it's just a crap term all around.

Normalizing, legitimizing, and even privileging self-diagnosis is becoming more and more common. Saying you're neurodivergent becomes a hall pass for antisocial or maladaptive behavior. Can't pay attention in class? That's not a personal weak spot you can work on strengthening. That's just a non-mainstream way of succeeding in the world. Etc.

It's an attempt to traduce character flaws and real mental handicaps into the same category as personal tastes and preferences. Can't argue with taste. Can't argue with a self-diagnosed touch of the 'tism, either.

I hew to the old-fashioned view that if you're apologizing for it or excusing it, then you either need to do the work to fix it, or you need to get help to manage it. "I diagnosed myself with CPTSD because I grew up poor, so now you can't say boo about my lack of emotional self-regulation" is right out.

i'm of the belief there's people with a combination of mental problems and circumstance that cause them to have a great amount of difficulty getting help or doing the work to fix it that have easy and unrestricted access to social media

there's 100% people out there faking it to get out of trouble or for clout tho, but i don't think discontinuing use of the term would fundamentally change that in any way.

as commonly understood, i think it has a more narrow definition that. i agree it's a bit nebulous and there's a whole interesting social dynamic of people self diagnosing for clout online and things like that but there's definitely mental issues that cause people to have difficulty socializing, that's not a made up thing.

I'm not disputing that these conditions exist. However there is no evidence of Arday actually having a diagnosis. He claims both autism and Asperger's, and you can't have both at once. You can't have Asperger's and have language delay. The global development delay he claimed to have is not a type of autism as he claimed. And some of the things he claimed to have were not recognised diagnoses at the time he claimed to have been diagnosed. I think he did have something, but he embroidered it and simply made things up when they sounded good to him. So the nebulous term seemed best to describe the situation.

Asperger syndrome was merged into autism spectrum disorder in DSM-V. That has problems of its own (the term "autism" is too broad to be useful), but nowdays a person with Asperger's can also be described as autistic.

I'm not sure about "can't", but yeah, a language delay until 11 years old would probably not get you an Asperger diagnosis.
I think he did have something
Narcissistic personality disorder?

Okay, so I got it wrong.

Specifically, Williamson County,
did the usual sightseeing around Nashville, Hard Rock Cafe, Old Oprey, Country Hall of Fame, the 'Acropolis', the old Confederate hang outs, plantation houses/old slave quarters, Johnny Cash hangouts, Vanderbilt Uni, Jehovah's Witness skyscraper building, Jack Daniels brewery tour, restaurants serving huge plates of catfish, Cajun food, endless shopping malls. Beautiful area of great natural scenic beauty: hummingbirds and huge oaks. The Mexican restaurant I wanted to experience was nothing like the trendy ones in London. Thinking back now at how unexpectedly horrible the food was, with a group of about seven to nine Mexican amigos standing watching us, I wonder whether it was actually a front for something else. Picked up at the airport in Charlotte. Some funny things happened at the airport but that would be waaaay off topic.
One more question: What is the "Jehovah's Witness skyscraper building"? They have one of those in NYC (a 30 storey dormitory), but I've never heard of one in Nashville.

I don't want to discontinue the term. If we do that, they'll just co-opt some other legitimate medical term instead, and we'll have to go through this whole rigamarole again.

i don't really think it's that big of a deal

Well neurodivergent is an umbrella term isn't it, one that covers ....
Autism
ADHD
Dyslexia
Dysgraphia
Dyspraxia
OCD
Tourettes
Learning disability
Down syndrome
and a whole bunch of other conditions.

Well, Vixen's travelled. Even if she's not from from Purley.
Nudge, nudge, wink wink, Say . No . More.

I have no reason to care about your opinion. You have displayed consistently bad judgement on the topic. "Autoethnography" is intrinsically unserious.
Have you ever studied Sociology in whatever various form, or are you going to brush it off, like HansMustermann and Emily's Cat, as wokerati nonsense?

I'm going to brush off autoethnographies, absolutely. They are nonsense. Whatever one's opinion of the field in general, Arday in particular was not contributing anything useful.
