But it certainly increases the probability that somebody will be killed and if you pull a gun on some nutter who is attacking you and they continue to attack you, you better be prepared to kill them because the alternative is they get the gun off you and kill you.
Also, if they already have a gun and you pull a gun on them, there is really no alternative but to shoot them before they realise you pulled your gun because otherwise, they'll get their shot off first.
In civilised countries, we have realised that allowing people to carry guns for self defence usually makes things worse.

And that guy selling illegal cigarettes being shot in the street? I mean, self defense doesn't mean you were asking for it personally.
Eta: well he kind of was, but I mean that bad guys have few qualms about who their victims are. At least in the home, I think self defense as an absolute last resort against an intruder is at least justifiable as a reason.

If you feel your life is being threatened, the normal course would be to report that to the police. Those who don't are likely involved in a criminal activity themselves.
Strangely, crimes committed by Mongrel Mob (or other criminal gangs) on their neighbours is extremely low.
You may be interested to know that during the first covid lockdown, the Mongrel Mob were instrumental in helping people stay home, and once vaccines came out, encouraged their members to get vaccinated.
Don't believe everything Ross Kemp tells you about NZ gangs. Aside from a few hothead young members, they're mostly harmless.
That's 'Straya. Their gangs are armed, and with top-class weapons. It's not like that here.
The number of home invasions in NZ is minuscule, and even more importantly, if someone is storing their guns legally, you wouldn't have a dog's show of getting the gun to stop them.

That's why guns are a bad idea as the first choice for self defense.
Yes I know. Shooting a person is optional. In the past I have watched a person use a firearm to keep a person at bay and stop threatening others.
I do plan on visiting in-laws in NZ in the next few years, the guns are staying home.

Can you tell me more about those awkward questions you're expecting I would have to answer?
I have been questioned by the police after a threatening encounter with a person armed with a rifle. The question and answer session was anything but awkward.

My point was someone turning up and asking to apply for a firearm licence because they feel threatened.
What awkward questions should I expect, if I applied for a firearm license because I feel threatened? My point is that you're making a claim and I'm asking you to explain yourself.
