Voyager 1 Please Call Home

Curiosity? We'll talk again in 30+ years.

How about we wait until Voyager has been exposed to dust storms and years of intense UV?

Latest update on the Voyager twine;

Both still plugging along.

As of early August 2026, Voyager-1 is over 25.57 billion kilometers (15.89 billion miles) from planet Earth, while Voyager-2 is over 21.37 billion kilometers (13.28 billion miles) away.

I was reading about this the other day. So, so cool (literally!)

Will be one light day from earth very soon, and hopefully still "alive".

What benefits are we reaping from Voyager 1 vs billions of transistors on a credit card size footprint?

The whole space program is a waste of money, right?

[Metullus]

I suspect a hoax. I mean, has anyone seen any video of either spacecraft in the last 50 years or so? I'm sure that if it was real NASA would have shown us video of them like it claimed to do with Apollo...

Vixen? You wanna take this one?

How did they get the cameraman there?

[Darat]

And where is the geopositioned satellite that NASA uses to communicate with them?

[Darat]

Voyager was the first space mission that I remember well and got very excited about, it was going to take a few years to get to the gas giants and then a year or so of planned encounters and its mission would be over.... nearly 50 years on and it's still being useful. It feels sad that it really is near to ending its communications with us.

(Well until it falls through a wormhole and returns in a few hundred years....)

It's just been passed by a Ryan Air plane to "Frankfurt"

[Darat]

Frankfurt Alpha Centauri?

[P.J. Denyer]

Frankfurt Alpha Centauri?

By Ryan Air standards it's a fairly short transfer.

Exactly!
