Reddit is naturally talking about this whole thing, and since crying "Fauci lied!" doesn't go over well when people ask for evidence a new tactic has arisen: Suddenly there are tons of self-proclaimed "gay men" complaining that Fauci caused them to "live through the horrors of the AIDS epidemic". Like dude, even if you are a 65+ year old gay man I doubt you would know who Fauci even was during that time and what he was doing.

My understanding is that the community basically had to smack him in the face to get him to listen, but that he did, in fact, eventaully listen and do better going forward, in spite of working at the time for an administration no more sympathetic to addressing AIDS than the Trump administration was to addressing COVID.
