In order to go through 8 years of medical training and a year of residency to be a doctor takes intelligence, not just schooling. Even by your own definition, a doctor must be able to use his/her "manners, social competency" AND "schooling, training" in a "rational and useful way". That's intelligence. As I said, even intelligent people can be stupid about some things, especially when it comes to religion and politics, because we are all human beings with the inconsistencies and contradictions that come with that.

I've been a medical secretary in a teaching hospital for 30 years, my boss was a member of the local disciplinary board for medical professionals, I've seen all kinds of doctors and surgeons who did pass all the necessary exams but proved to be ill mannered, socially inept, consistently irrational, and often a real danger for the patients, so forgive me for not being totally persuaded that getting a MD or a PhD is a complete guarantee for what is considered intelligence.

And being an MD and ASD I would challenge that being socially inept is the same as being a danger to patients. If you are operating on a neonate with a congenital heart defect (a heart the size of a walnut), on cold cardioplegia (giving you 90 minutes before brain damage starts), then empathy may not be the most valuable emotion whilst you are operating. Some of the best surgeons are psychopaths.

I am not sure a medical secretary is a good judge of medical competence. (My secretary would defend me too.)

I don't think Flo was defending their boss and the last sentence of your post can be thrown away all together, to be honest.

It sounds like Flo was making an observation of doctors in general that they've come in contact with over the years. To me it's a perfectly reasonable observation.

You're also appealing to your own authority as an MD and implying that, since you are one, you have a more qualified opinion than Flo does. You're throwing out a double standard here too. You absolutely have more of a bias about doctors, since you are one, than Flo appears to have. I'd say your opinion is just as worthless as Flo's, but that's just me.

You can say that about most governments. I could certainly say that about the British system.
Problem is, any system is only as good as the people who run it on a day to day basis, and too many people are afraid of Trump to stand up to him. In the end, the ballot box if the only real solution.
SOme people are just very uncomfortable with the idea you cannot solve every problme with a new law.

And some people have a hard time accepting that.
Human beings are human beings,not Vulcans, and expecting them to behave in logical manner all the time is a big fallacy...but some here realy do expect everybody to behave like Mr. Spock.
(I know, I know, in Star Trek Vulcans do have emotions, they just bury them beneath their logic but you get my point).
Of course, you have the problem of what is logical behavior. I don't think all religous beleifs are stupid, for example..

I agree with most of this, but the most recent developmens is that Trump no longer loves Putin. he see Putin as a loser, something he cannot tolerate.

If this is to be done as a more serious discussion, it is perhaps worth pointing out that intelligence is often divided into distinctly different forms of intelligence and that it somewhat feels like much of the disagreements here have to do with conflating notably different forms. For example, being able to pass written and practical exams tends to invoke distinctly different forms of intelligence than one's emotional intelligence and empathy. Neither of those are the same thing as upholding ethical and moral standards. The conflation of usages tends to be fine for non-serious speech and conversation, of course, but if people start working to leverage that conflation to make points in arguments, things will quickly go downhill.

Doctors are humans, too, either way, with all that entails when it comes to human psychology.
