He was running for re-election this year.

It probably gives a little boost to the democrats (lady lindsy being in incumbent at least had name recognition), but south carolina is pretty solidly behind the republicans so I would expect them to retain the seat

Runner-up in the primary, Mark Lynch, is a pretty staunch, hard-right "America First" guy. He got trounced unsurprisingly but still garnered nearly a third of the vote. The governor may not want to appoint him in the interim but don't think be able to keep his name off the ballot for the general.

I'm just saying what we are all thinking: Graham's Life Force was necessary to keep McConnell alive. It's the least any Republican can do for their leaders.
