Oh those classy punk rock fans

Finally, some civil disobedience! Not to apologize for anyone (I've been a big punk fan since the mid-seventies), but I think had they shown up with more paramedics (brain! brain!) instead of more policemen the crowd would have parted much more willingly. Most of the people there probably didn't even realize someone had been hurt.

Sending more policemen into a mosh pit to retrive someone was as bad an idea as sending Cindy Sheehan and Michael Moore to a Texas ranch to retrieve Cheney on a quail hunt.

As I mentioned somewhere in another thread, punk is more a state of mind than a mode of dress. It falls in line very well with a skeptic's attitude too. Freedom of expression and freedom of speech obviously rate high on the list (yes, there is a negative side too), and it's a subculture that appreciates an honest shove back (or put down) when confronted aggressively (that's why is used to be called Slam Dancing). Unfortunately, it's a subculture that draws attention (look at all the Charles Bronson movies - he must have killed 1,000 punks) for "appearing" intimidating. I have actually connected intellectually with several "punks" who were avid readers. My daughter (more Goth than punk) was always angry that her old boyfriends still came around to visit me. :)

Anwyay, I guess next time they rush a crowd of punks they'll either: A. send more cops with gas, water cannons and dogs, or B. send more paramedics!

BRAIN! ;)

By the way, the headliner, GBH, is an awesome punk band. Or they were back in the day. I wonder how well those old punk bands from the early 80's aged.

My partner is an old-school punk, from way back in the '70s. She still keeps close ties with the old crowd, including bands. Most of them have either broken up, with members going on to other projects or just dropping out and settling down; a number are still around performing (saw the Dickies, Angry Samoans, and Dwarves a few years ago, missed the last Bauhaus tour, though); and a few have had member die (usually OD). A lot of the ones who are still around still sound good, still have the old power and pissed-off vibe. Some just sound lame, worn-out or sell-out; but they're rare.

I like a lot of old-school punk and Goth; but got into them more recently, and am pretty much still a metalhead at heart.

Oh no, it's not like you were just oozing with apologist attitude there....

Yes, stabbings, throwing rock and glass bottles at police who had the audacity to - gasp - show up certainly isn't anything to put down. By golly, it's just "freedom of expression."

:hurl:

I wish they would have "civil disobient"-ed those brats into last week.

Some of us are old enough to know what punk rock is. Some of us received the message directly from John Peel's Your Mother Wouldn't Like It radio show. But that was before The Industry got involved.
