Again, as a reminder, Trump goons across the country engaged in illegal actions surrounding elections that included them multiple of them uploading important voting system data and programming to where hostile foreign powers could easily obtain it. Further, in places like Georgia, Republicans actively blocked and refused to comply with a court ruling, both for fixing serious vulnerabilities and recommendations to switch to cheaper and more secure methods.

Hence, this excuse is utterly disgusting, even if it's also plausibly true.

To add a bit more context here - family members of the rich and influential have long and fairly ubiquitously gained benefits from their associations to their rich and influential family members. Hunter isn't even remotely unique there. Given Joe's demonstrated scrupulousness, Hunter's case is actually quite minor, overall. It certainly is an unpleasant grey area, of course, objectively speaking, but Hunter makes for a terrible poster boy for why it is that. The only real reason that he was brought into the spotlight was because the Republican party was going after Joe.

With that said, the Biden Crime Family people were also actively supporting Trump and co, though, and Trump's family is dramatically worse on that front. As a general rule, not only did that crowd not call out the Trumps, they actively defended him when the point has been made. As usual, it's a demand to focus on the molehill and to ignore the mountain. Thus, it can fairly safely be said that the principles being raised were not what was driving them in the first place. Hence, the framing is misleading at a basic level.
