Merged (edited) General thoughts about Christianity and the bible

You call that a reliable source?
We know he actually existed and said the things attributed to him because we have objective contemporary records of it. It's reasonable to consider him an expert on lying to masses since he demonstrated a clear ability to do so and explained how he did it. He was also a consummately evil person, but that doesn't change the other facts.

You call that a reliable source?
Yes, because he proved himself to be an expert in getting huge numbers of people to believe utter lies. He knew what he was talking about. The fact that he was a piece of ◊◊◊◊ doesn't make him wrong when he was talking honestly about doing ◊◊◊◊◊◊ things.

That's a problem if there aren't any other parts.
Sure, but why jump right into the miracles? Does it really matter whether any of those actually happened? Even most people who revere Moses are happy with his role as a lawgiver. They don't need the water from the rock or the Noah's ark story or sawing a lady in half.

I can read the Sermon on the Mount and recognize self-evident truth and good advice: Be humble, comfort each other, be curious, be merciful, be honest, build bridges, etc. I don't have to believe that Jesus was divine, the son of God, or that he even existed to appreciate the wisdom in that essay. Those are just good ways to get along with people. You can learn them from any number of secular sources too, but the point is that they're in the Bible and I wouldn't call them koo-koo-bananas.

Similarly the Book of Mormon is mostly tedious garbage. But it teaches such things as continuous improvement. Yes you can get those same lessons easier from other sources. But it's in there. Along with a lot of koo-koo-bananas other claims, of course.

The Apostle Paul used a myth to make a point.
This begs the question about other POTENTIAL myths stated as fact in the New Testament.

There were two rocks that gave water for the Israelites at both ends of their wanderings in the wilderness.
The myth is that both of these rocks were the same rock. Paul says this rock was Christ.

What do you know about this?

Shouldn't Peter be the authority on the spiritual importance of rocks?

Although, Crystal Dawn down at the New Age shop has her own ideas. If you let us know which of your chakras is troubling you, she can recommend the best healing stone(s).

You're under the impression that Peter wrote 2 Peter?
It acceptable to credit Peter in Christians circles.
Thanks for the link though.
I feel the same way about the Gospel accounts.
Many of the NT books were an oral tradition
before they were written down.

2 Peter 1:1-2 NIV
Simon Peter, a servant and apostle of Jesus Christ,
To those who through the righteousness of our God and Savior
Jesus Christ have received a faith as precious as ours:
2 Grace and peace be yours in abundance through
the knowledge of God and of Jesus our Lord.

We have genealogies from Adam to Jesus.
No, you have claims of genealogies and the lists of people differ in each.

Are those fictitious people with fictional lives?
Probably, since they don't agree. You still haven't figured out that a story is not the same as proof that the story is true. You keep tripping up on this very fundamental concept.

No.
They tried to indoctrinate me at public school.
But they did a terrible job. - LOL
Indeed, you seem woefully ignorant of many things outside your religion (and not a few of them in it). Perhaps that is not a good position from which to attack people who listened more carefully in school.
