Merged (edited) General thoughts about Christianity and the bible

It was his idea to hit the rock with a stick. (Yep, the instructions were to wave his staff over the rock.) He took his entire tribe into the desert and walked around a peninsula for forty years. The Sinai can be walked entirely in less than two years at a casual pace, visually inspecting the surrounding terrain, including the methaphorical exit from said desert.
How did the Israelites get to the peninsula?

Why didn't Peter call him out as a fraud?

2 Peter 3:15-16 NIVv
Bear in mind that our Lord’s patience means salvation,
just as our dear brother Paul also wrote you with the wisdom that God gave him.
16 He writes the same way in all his letters, speaking in them of these matters.
His letters contain some things that are hard to understand,
which ignorant and unstable people distort,
as they do the other Scriptures, to their own destruction.
You're under the impression that Peter wrote 2 Peter?

I suppose you want peer-reviewed scientific papers to prove the event? - LOL

Ridiculous.

You have such a narrow view.
And you are obsessed with fairy tales and lies, utterly unwilling to accept the lack of evidence for you stories. Like that magic cave under the Euphrates that doesn't exist.......

Ah facts. God botherers seem to be allergic to them.

Ridiculous.

It would indeed be ridiculous to expect there to be evidence of ancient mythological stories. Nobody here expects there to be such evidence.

It is far more ridiculous to believe such stories are factual records of actual historical events.

You have such a narrow view.

A view which encompasses millenia of painstakingly accumulated knowledge and understanding of how the world works is far wider than one which simply ignores it all in order to continue to believe ancient comforting myths.

Take the advice of your bible and put away childish things, Rusty. Become an emotionally mature adult, and accept reality. Yes there are some down sides to growing up, but there are plenty of rewards as well.

Please don't dissuade Crusty. He's one of the best tools for curing people of god bothering. "Do you really want to sound like him?"

If you assume that miracles cannot happen.
I assert that none of the miracles claimed by religion is likely to have happened as recounted.

I suppose you wanted peer-reviewed scientific papers to prove the event? - LOL
Were there miracles before peer-reviewed scientific papers? (even after)
Straw man. Asking for objective, testable evidence is not tantamount to asking for peer-reviewed studies. You can't prove there were any miracles at all. All you have is a story in a book.

You have such a narrow view.
Do you believe in all religious miracle claims?

Do you believe Mohammed split the Moon? Do you believe he watered his entire army from water from his fingers? (Where have we heard a story like that before?) Do you believe the Buddha spat fire? Do you believe Joseph Smith could see treasure with his seeing stones? Do you believe in the miracle of the Mormon crickets?

I'll assume you don't believe in any of those, which means we believe only slightly fewer miracles than you do. And better, we have a rational process for deciding which ones to believe in. You seem to believe only the ones you were told about as a child.
