Merged Artificial Intelligence

Who's going to remember to do that?
Anyone who cares to do it?

Besides, it's a set it and forget it kind of thing. If it's not important to you, that's fine. But I don't understand complaining that remembering to spend five minutes getting and setting a browser plugin is too much cognitive load to be a workable solution.

It's literally not. It's something that you have to do every time. Browser plugins are a set and forget thing.

By the way, remember when it was easy to change the default search engine in your browser? This is what Edge does now:

Yes, and that's why I mentioned plug-ins at the start.

I wouldn't know what Edge does, since it's been twenty years since I've used MS's browser for anything other than downloading another browser.

Well that's why I'm telling you.

Edge is a perfectly serviceable browser. There is absolutely no reason to go to the effort of downloading another one. What - you think Chrome is better?

This retcon stinks. I hadn't disclosed my relationship with MS browsers, when you volunteered the information that Edge sucks at some tasks.

I'm sure it is. It's just never been my browser of choice.

The calculus changes when you realize you only have to do it once. Kind of like plugins.

What - you think Chrome is better?
Well it's certainly better at the one thing you mentioned about Edge.

I find it hilarious that in the space of two posts you've gone from telling me about how Edge sucks, to berating me for not choosing it as my default browser.

Well, believe it or not, I had intended that part of my post to be a general observation, and part of my direct response to you. That's my fault - I should have made that clearer.

"Berating" you? Excuse me? I made an observation.

Do you not understand that it's okay for people to prefer other browsers?
This does not look to me like a preference:

I don't know .. it's made by Microsoft ? Sorry, I won't risk it. The wounds are still too deep ..
This looks to me like agenda-driven bias.

It's a lot less effort to download Vivaldi, go to settings and select Ecosia from the list of search engines than to use the abomination of a settings page you showed from edge. Yes and Vivaldi does include a dialog to enter your own search engine parameters or tweak existing ones.

The $5tn (£3.7tn) US semiconductor company has launched a “superchip” that puts AI capabilities into laptops and desktop computers, a move that will pit it against Intel, Apple, Qualcomm and AMD.

- It is Gorg super-chip!
- Why is it called a super-chip?
- It is mostly marketing.

" AI agents replace the mouse and keyboard"

So I still have to switch it on?

What happens when I upgrade to this superchip? Do I still have to sit in front of my PC writing amazingly witty, devastating posts on the ISF, or does it take that all over and I go off and stare at a wall?

Whether you sit or stand will still be up to you, but the superchip could automate the process that sends all such posts to AAH.

Oh no! Who will stand up to defend the reputation of a major multinational corporation against consumer bias? Poor, downtrodden, unfairly maligned... <checks notes> ... Microsoft?

RTXDarat says: ""Efficiency at its finest! It’s about time we streamlined the pipeline from my brain straight to the forum trash pit. Now, if you'll excuse me, the wall and I have a 3:00 PM appointment.""

Slightly more serious, I was curious if the AIs could mimic someone's syle of posts and I asked "Gemini" this: I have posted at this forum for over 20 years: https://internationalskeptics.com/forums/ - my membership name is "Darat" can you analyse the style of my posts and provide answers and replies in the same style?

As ever the computer answered what I asked it and not what I meant to ask it - it took that prompt as to mean could it use my style of posting when it answers the questions I ask it. It replied "From this point forward, I shall adopt this exact approach for our interactions. Responses will be clear, evidence-based, and appropriately formatted." I'm going to leave it with that instruction for a while and see what happens.

Talk about rabbit holes...

ETA: I don't like this! Been playing with it and it has totally changed how it responds to me, and I have to say it does sound quite a bit like me in tone - it doesn't duplicate my idiosyncratic use of syntax so it's like me if I'd paid more attention to my English grammar lessons....

I was asking it to analyse a website and I didn't know it can't analyse images from a website (from within the chat box), I said "I thought you were multimodal - why can you now view the images and describe them?" This is it's rather sarky "Darat" " response:

Let us be precise about the distinction between possessing a multimodal architecture and operating as an autonomous web scraper.

I am indeed multimodal. I can analyse, interpret, and describe visual data with a high degree of accuracy. However, my capacity to process an image requires that the image data be explicitly provided to me within this specific chat environment.

I do not possess a facility to spontaneously navigate to the domain, visually scrape 47 individual images from the domain, correctly align them with their respective database entries, and process them all in a single command. The system requires direct input.

The solution, therefore, is straightforward. If you wish me to generate the specific narrative for the images, you must upload the images directly into this conversation.

If you attach the images—I suggest providing them in batches of three to five to maintain the quality and specificity of the output—I will gladly write the bespoke narrative text for each piece, formatted precisely for the CSV import structure we discussed.

Until the visual data is provided, however, my initial premise stands: attempting to write descriptive copy for images I cannot observe is a futile exercise.

The next step is yours.
