Trump's promised ICE raids have begun

Federal prosecutors have dropped charges with prejudice against the "Broadview 6", a group arrested for protesting outside an ICE facility in Chicago.

Seems the Grand Jury indictment was more than a little bit problematic. As the judge put it "I have read hundreds, if not thousands, of grand jury transcripts involving prosecutors who are the most junior of prosecutors to several U.S. Attorneys who appeared before the grand jury. I have never seen the types of prosecutorial behavior before a grand jury that I saw in those transcripts."

Apparently a lot of the charges made against the protestors had been dropped over the past few months as they were obviously untenable.

The best people, everyone.

MAGA man caught on camera texting "Call ICE" at high school graduation—because there are too many "Mexican names."

"Man Hispanics everywhere! Every other name is Mexican! We are being overrun!" he writes.

"ICE needs to raid this graduation!"

The Farmersville High School graduation ceremony was held at the Credit Union of Texas Event Center in Allen, Texas.

Maybe because Texas was part of Mexico? It is the non-Mexicans who are the migrants.

The cruelty is the point

Those indigenous people should go back where they came from.
In Sunland Park, on New Mexico's border with Mexico, crews this year set off blasts on Mount Cristo Rey, a pilgrimage site topped with a limestone crucifix.

CBP is seeking to seize a strip of the mountain owned by the Roman Catholic Church for wall construction. The Diocese of Las Cruces asked a judge this month to deny the land transfer as an affront to religious liberties and the "faithful who seek to commune with God on Mount Cristo Rey."

That's OK, they aren't really sacred, as they aren't sacred to Christian Nationalists.........

I am an atheist, but I have to admit that theists have wrought beautiful art and architecture, throughout the world, and have no hesitation in protecting their fantasies.
I agree. I've been privileged to stand in the holy places of at least three major religions. You don't have to believe in a god to admire what people have done in homage to those gods.

And in my state we have remarkable lands that the indigenous people regarded as sacred spaces, for example Zion Canyon. The people didn't build those lands, but they recognized their inherent solemnity and took it upon themselves to treat it as special.

Judge tosses federal charges against Kilmar Abrego Garcia

Washington — A federal judge in Tennessee on Friday tossed out an indictment charging Kilmar Abrego Garcia, a Salvadoran man mistakenly deported by the Trump administration last year, with human smuggling.

U.S. District Judge Waverly Crenshaw granted Abrego Garcia's effort to dismiss the criminal charges on the ground that the Justice Department's prosecution was vindictive. Crenshaw had already ruled that the Salvadoran man demonstrated that the prosecution may be vindictive, which left it up to the government to rebut that presumption.

But in his decision, the judge concluded that prosecutors failed to meet that burden, writing "the evidence before this Court sadly reflects an abuse of prosecuting power."

The decision is a massive victory for Abrego Garcia, whose immigration case became a flashpoint in President Trump's sweeping immigration crackdown.

Yes I have walked in Zion Canyon, looked for the petroglyphs and walked alongside the river, beautiful.

Posted without judgement…

We went to a high school graduation in Lenoir City, TN, about 25 miles west of Knoxville. There was an abundance of Hispanic names on the roster of graduates. So it’s hardly a just a Texan phenomenon.

"Lenoir"? Sounds a bit French.

I've managed to do so all in the one go. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cathedral_of_Syracuse

On Zion Canyon, it'd be one place I'd love to visit if the US ever returns to sanity.
