Ed Israel/US Attacks Iran /Yet Another Country/Iran

US negotiated peace agreements (like all other deals with the USA) are less than transient. Trump forgets he made a peace deal so fighting restarts.
And this is what @Ziggurat is missing with their dismissal of concerns about credibility.
I don't think you understand where credibility actually comes from. It does not come from being nice or polite or agreeable.
I agree that it doesn't matter about being nice. But the person you are negotiating with, has to be confident that you are negotiating in good faith and that if they make concessions, they will get something (even if it's just, "not get attacked") in return. With Trump, not only does he break his agreements, he'll deny in retrospect even that he made an agreement, in the face of overwhelming evidence to the contrary.

U.S. Central Command (CENTCOM) has released video of the interdiction of the motor vessel Touska in the Northern Arabian Sea by the U.S. Navy Arleigh Burke-class guided missile destroyer USS Spruance (DDG-111). The video contains audio of the USS Spruance giving warnings to the Touska to vacate the engine room before firing the Mark 45 5" deck gun 3 times at the vessel.

Let's just take a moment to consider the thousands of merchant seamen (and women) stuck on ships with diminishing food supplies and no pay.

Not once has that vile orange prick suggested helping them out. It wouldn't be the most difficult task, although USA seems to even be incapable of getting their own logistics organised.

Also known as "soft 25th".
Or, "ineffectual" 25th because he can still interfere in bad ways, because he thinks he's playing hardball
Logistics win wars, and the US used to be the best at it.
No more
Well, he's an authoritarian leader who's fixated on impressive weapons and interferes in design decisions. Other countries have been there.

It takes time to build up credibility but no time to lose it. This is not a new concept; Machiavelli discussed it, and it permeates gangster films.

You know what else will be affected by a history of breaking agreements? The cost of doing business. If you renege on agreements, I will need compensation for the additional risk of investing in you, again, whether you are a mob boss or the leader of a country. After all if you renege on agreements with other countries, why would I believe you're not going to renege on your government bonds.
And from the other thread

Trump announced yesterday Iran had agreed the ceasefire conditions and were expected to sign the agreement in Pakistan last night. Then things went a bit quiet. Then today the US navy fired on an Iranian container ship to halt it.

So there isn't a ceasefire, since fire hasn't ceased. And the two sides don't appear to agree what the terms are. Trump appears to imagine he can just browbeat Iran into surrendering by declaring they have agreed to stuff they haven't agreed to. Is there perhaps a grown-up there who can help him avoid looking so useless?

He thinks he's playing hardball in the Apprentice and the Art of the Deal. Forgetting that those were heavily fictionalised

Yes. All facetiousness aside for a moment, it really does look alarmingly like Trump now imagines he can change events simply by declaring things he wishes to be true.

I suppose it works well enough when he's announcing whatever his gang of sycophants are doing, because they won't contradict him. The Iranian regime are not going to help him by obediently lying that the shoes fit.

The thing about the GOP senators and Representives is that they MUST know that he's the best he will be this year.

And they will eventually have to get rid of him. Can you imagine what he will be like in 2028?

Compare him now to a year ago. The longer they wait, the worse it will be.

As predicted

European stock markets opened lower as optimism fades that the key Strait of Hormuz waterway could be opened swiftly..

The price of Brent crude oil jumped 5% to $95.29 a barrel as traders reacted to the latest news from the Gulf, reversing falls seen on Friday.

Iran has not yet decided whether it will attend a second round of negotiations with the US, a spokesman for Iran's foreign ministry says.

"As of now... we have no plans for the next round of negotiation, and no decision has been made in this regard," spokesman Esmail Baghaei says, in a translation from the AFP news agency.

Oh, America isn't about to fall. Not even if you are right about our loss of status. I don't think you comprehend what Pax Americana has done for the world, and what its loss will mean.
Sure I do. What has America done for me?

1. Entered the Vietnam war, which as well as killing several million people and making us sick to our stomachs, caused rising inflation between 1965 and the early 1970s.

2. Supported Israel during the Yom Kippur War, upsetting Arab nations who responded with an oil embargo. Inflation rose higher.

3. Executed regime change in Iran in 1953, the resulting 'blowback' of the Iranian revolution of 1979 which further destabilizing the Middle East and making inflation spike even higher.

4. Supported Iraq in its fight with Iran, then switched around and attacked Iraq (twice!).

5. Continued its antagonism towards Iran and unwavering for Israel's genocide against Palestinans, further destabilizing the ME and making us even more sick to our stomachs.

6. Attacked Iran causing what may be the worst global oil crisis ever, just as we were recovering from Covid.

In New Zealand we had fuel rationing and inflation hit 17% in 1980. By the late 1980's mortgage interest rates had reached 20%. High inflation in the US then triggered the stock market crash of 1987. They say that when the US sneezes the world gets a cold. The New Zealand stock market crashed by 60%, and stayed down. Some analysts say our economy never fully recovered.

What will the loss of US heganomy do for me? Hard to say, but it's unlikely to be worse than what we have endured so far. Pax Americana never really existed anyway.

You live on a tiny, remote island, one which depends upon imports to survive. Your survival depends upon international shipping, and maritime freedom of navigation. Where does that freedom of navigation come from? International law? No. International law provides an intellectual justification for freedom of navigation, but it doesn't actually enforce it.

The United States Navy has been since WW2 the primary guarantor of freedom of navigation. Your entire economy depends upon what you take for granted, what you don't even understand.
