To avoid the embarrasment of a comically over-long or unduly short tie, I would recommend a bowtie.

...and before anyone starts pissing on about how dificult/elitist it is to tie one: it's the same damn knot used to tie your shoelaces. Are you claiming that you can't do that?

The gram of truth behind the effort is that if an overweight person wears their tie too short, it draws attention to their weight. He has clearly flipped it around and thinks wearing it long makes him look less fat, but that doesn't work.
