Merged 2026 Mid-Term election outcomes: US Congress

In a sign that Trump still owns MAGA, Dan Crenshaw has been primaried by a MAGA loyalist in TX-2.

That's crazy. Crenshaw is politically very conservative and would agree with most of Trump's policies. Was his mistake to not say "I believe everything Trump tells me to believe?"

Today's GOP is nothing like the GOP of Lincoln's time. Several historians have written books on how the two parties kept their names but switched in thinking.

Almost every time I hear the name Nixon, it always makes me laugh, because the first image I have is him standing there like the greatest caricature of all time, shaking his head in that special way, jowls shaking while raising his hands over his head, displaying two peace signs, and saying, "I am not a crook!"

I have a feeling the fat clown will become the same kind of demented, laughing-stock caricature like Nixon, except it'll be a long time before that becomes really funny like Nixon.

Of course, that's just my opinion, but one thing I will give Nixon credit for, he sort of did have a sense of humor, displayed by his cameo on Laugh-In asking, "Sock it to me?"

And, despite him leaving office in disgrace, Nixon's record was a bit more... mixed. Yes, there was the watergate coverup (not to mention some messy stuff in vietnam). But, he also opened relations with china, signed nuclear control agreements with Russia, and had a part in creating the environmental protection agency. He might not have been a "great" president, but he wasn't quite at the bottom of the presidential rankings either. Trump has no significant "successes" at all. Pretty much everything of significance he did in his first term and the first year of his second term has been negative.

Plus, ultimately nixon had the good sense and esigned. (Later than he should have, and it was in part due to him losing congressional support, but he didn't fight to the bitter end.) I cannot see Trump doing the same thing. (Heck, he lost the 2020 election and supported a terrorist attack as a result.)

If the Democrats want to ensure the win, they should probably go with Mills. However, given who votes in the primaries, I expect Platner to get the nod. We'll know on June 9.

I think this has been discussed previously before...

One of the issues with ANY "new guy" is not just their progressiveness, etc., but the fact that they might have unexpected skeletons in their closet.

There was some controversy over Platner a few months ago when it was discovered that he had a tatoo that supposedly had ties to nazi germany. (He went through the military with the tatoo, so its likely most people don't know about its legacy/association, but its the type of thing that could be a problem in a close race.)

Of course I could point out the irony of a democrat having problem with "nazi stuff" when Trump actually called Nazis "fine people", but that's another discussion.

Look at Fetterman. He was a moderate and now he's just a Republican in Dem clothing. I'd rather pass on getting another one of those.
