no clear goal beyond causing death and destruction - no plan to have ground troops to actually make regime change happen.

Nah, creating another broken nation like Iraq, Afghanistan or Libya and then wonder why the Middle east hates the US and Israel, while at the same time giving a nice breeding ground for desperate people to be exploited by terrorists it is.

The negotiations and the threat of force go hand in hand. They aren’t contradictory at all. The threat of force is intended to make negotiations more likely to succeed, but in the event that they don’t, you use force to get it anyways (which appears to be what’s happening now). But you don’t use force if negotiations do work.

This isn’t complicated. The connection is obvious. And understanding that connection also has nothing to do with whether you agree with this approach or not.

Yes that is trivially true about the *threat* of force. But the threat is only enacted once the negotiations have finished, not *during* them.

Trump doesn't really do negotiations; you just agree to what he wants or he punishes you, he can't tariff Iran so it is bombs. European countries oppose take over of Greenland - tariffs.

Quite apart from the fact the whole thing started with Trump pulling out of the prior agreement that ket Iran from enriching uranium, the last set of talks were interrupted by the US and Israel attacking Iran, now they do the same thing again. The UK had a deal limiting tariffs to 10%, because Trump was pissed with USSC he breaks the deal and puts them up to 15%.

I think the lesson is it is pointless making agreements with trump, (viz Diego Garcia), he'll just change his mind a few weeks later.
