Million year old human skull?

The history of science records a great many examples of multiple theories, each supported by evidence. When that happens in an experimental science, such as physics, the multiplicity of theories motivates the design of experiments that can rule out one or more of the theories.

The EPR paper is a famous example. In 1927, Heisenberg published his uncertainty principle. In 1934, Einstein, Podolsky, and Rosen (EPR) published a competing theory that postulated hidden variables. Both theories were consistent with the evidence known at that time.

Although most physicists favored Heisenberg's theory, EPR's hidden variables were not definitively ruled out by evidence until well after Bell published his theorem in the 1960s. Bell's theorem showed how the idea of hidden variables could be subjected to quantitative tests, which began in the 1970s and continued to the present day. In 2022, the Nobel Prize in Physics was awarded to three of the experimentalists who hammered nails into the EPR theory's coffin.


This reminds me of a line of argument that goes something like this:

Were you there when that fish walked onto land and became an air-breathing mammal? Did you actually see it happen? No? So all you have is a theory. There are other theories. We can pick which authority we think is most likely correct. I hold with Genesis. It's been right about everything so far, and there is no better authority than the Creator Himself.
It's a mistake to conflate the study of Theology and metaphysics with that of Archaeology. The latter can tell us much about people's beliefs and views of their world from funeral rites, burials, art and artefacts dug up, so no, it wouldn't be evidence-free but an interpretation based on what you know from other samples. The former is a perfectly worthy branch of philosophy albeit of a far more abstract nature.
 
“Million-year-old” fossil skulls from China are far older—and not Denisovans (Ars Technica)

Two skulls from Yunxian, in northern China, aren’t ancestors of Denisovans after all; they’re actually the oldest known Homo erectus fossils in eastern Asia.

A recent study has re-dated the skulls to about 1.77 million years old, which makes them the oldest hominin remains found so far in East Asia. Their age means that Homo erectus (an extinct common ancestor of our species, Neanderthals, and Denisovans) must have spread across the continent much earlier and much faster than we’d previously given them credit for. It also sheds new light on who was making stone tools at some even older archaeological sites in China.
 
Even as a kid I challenged some things I was being told about dinosaurs. One of the things that has stuck with me is how we were told the T-Rex had "puny" arms, that they weren't really used, that they were vestigial. But I had also learned about your country's wildlife i.e. Kangaroos. I'd seen Kangaroos and they struck me as being a similar shape profile and proportions to the T-Rex drawings we had in the books and anyone thinking Kangaroo arms are puny needs to see them boxing. Yeah compared to their hind legs the arms are not as muscular but they are anything but puny and certainly not vestigial.
I like that! Bouncing dinosaurs.
 
Well... if by "boxing" you are referring to the specific non-lethal sparring that they do for dominance and social reasons, like the sport boxing that humans do, I guess. But only if you're boxing with your feet.

They also use their arms.

There's plenty of footage of kangaroos 'boxing' with each other, using their arms, with their heads pulled back out of the fray.

I've experienced the strength of those arms on a relatively small grey, and I can attest that they are far from vestigial.

I'm going to bet that they're going to find their estimate is off. A million years pushes the date for human evolution back an awfully long way.

The 40% complete skeleton was found by paleoanthropologist Donald Johanson, revealing that early humans walked upright before developing large brains. She is housed in the National Museum in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia."

Had to go by there when we circumnavigated Africa.
