someone a bit earlier hoped that the regime would do an Assad and go into hiding in Moscow or something.
It looks like they're doing an Assad as in the reaction to the Arab spring. Which gave us the IS caliphate and a whole bunch of more and more radicalized rebels.
In the end it looks like Syria is, very, very, very tentatively, turning out alright, but at what cost in human lives and what could it have become if IS had won their part of the civil war?
If the Iran regime is going Assad v2, instead of the repression they're doing now, the end result for Iran could very well be, some kind of moderate replacement government.
The longer it takes like it does now, the more blood will flow, the more radical the protesters will become. With the possible end result that, should the present regime eventually fall, the replacement will be more of the same. Only with other people being oppressed.

It wasn't actually serious. I mean, I certainly wouldn't object to helping arm citizens so they can pursue democracy rather than a tyranny... but it's not like I was making a sincere suggestion.
Sure, sure, because some states having absurdly strict abortion laws is totally identical to literally making females second-class-non-citizens without any individual rights, treated like property, forbidden to gain education, required to cover their hair and bodies, and only allowed out in public if chaperoned by a male relative. Yep.... identical.

I'd be delighted if Trump had no involvement with Iran's nascent revolution but he does insist on inserting himself into the news by making promises and threats about it. Which makes him topical to this thread. Tell you what: you get Trump to shut up and keep out of it, and the rest of us will stop mentioning him in this thread.
