I am torn by this. I despise ISIL and am not adverse to hitting them where we are able to do so, but that Trump did this without any attempt, apparetnly , to get approval of the Nigerian government is troubling. And I am reluctant to beleive anything coming out of Trump
s mouth. It seems to me we should make every effort to get Moderate Muslims on our side, but Trmp seems uninterested in doing that.
And the religious right in the US seems to want a full scale holy war against Islam. I am scared Trump.though I don't think he has any real reliousou convictions, might oblige them.

It reminds me of the time he released all that water from the dams in California. It was completely useless and counterproductive and was done on the assumption that Trump is Always Right. He really believes that and everyone around him had to believe it too.

If Trump had consulted with California he may have been able to contribute to something constructive.

I agree, but remember, Operation Neptune Spear was carried out on Pakistan sovereign territory without the approval of the Pakistan government. Now I do understand why that was, but I don't know enough about the relationship between the Nigerian government, IS and Boko Haram to know if the same issues apply.

I am arguing along these lines with my brother, who said that he is doing something about ISIL. My problem is that there are indeed a lot of handles the POTUS can turn, but the systems are complex with lots of potential unintended consequences, and just pulling them randomly is often going to make things worse.

And that is when he is actually trying to do something positive. There is all the unconstitutional, corrupt, and/or simply destructive stuff that he is also doing.

Update: Looks like they did have the OK from the Nigerian government.

The only question I have is, was this "go ahead" given retrospectively? Maybe that doesn't really matter so long as the Nigerian Government is OK with it now.
