I've thought this was the case for some time, given the generally-accepted meaning of Doomsday Cult including: those that attempt to destroy the entire universe*.
Trump's dismissal of climate change, and consequent growth of fossil fuels is an excellent example of attempting to destroy our species, and when coupled with his destruction of economic and strategic alliances, shows their desire to fragment the world, and ultimately end the human species.
At the same time, the insanity of MAHA is revealed as they attempt to turn as many people as possible off vaccines, while limiting access for high-risk pregnant women. There is no doubt this will cost millions of lives and leaves the world far more exposed to pandemics than was the case pre-covid.
Whether the desire for total destruction is driven by pseudo-christian desire for apocalypse, or just sheer bloody-mindedness by mentally ill old while men, I don't know, and it doesn't really matter, because they're working at Warp Speed on the plan.
I'm not sure the path will even be reversible as the only opposition, the Democratic Party, is completely unable to get its act together and is setting up another Republican presidency in 2028. That they are more unpopular than the Republicans should see them wearing sackcloth and ashes, but they won't change.
Pity, really,. the planet used to be a pretty cool place. Fortunately, it will be long enough ahead that my kids shouldn't suffer for their sin of being alive at the wrong time. Their kids, should they be silly enough to have any, may not be so lucky.
