Trump's Second Term

Do you honestly think I'm going to click on some random Google doc?
You know it's not a random Google doc. It's a paper published by the National Library of Medicine.

You don't know me very well.
I used to think I did.

Anyway, I already responded to that.
Was your response "my bad, turns out JFK Jr was right about telomeres in space"? That's the response I'd expect, from the Arth I thought I knew.

No, actually I don't know that. I can't tell anything about it from just the link you posted.

I used to think I did.
You never did.

My response is right there for you and everyone else to read.

Just to be clear, the address link does not suggest that in any way and you didn't include enough information to know what you were linking to. From context, one could make the assumption that it was something that you thought backed up your point, but nothing more.

As for arthwollipot's acknowledgement, it can be found at post 34492.

I agree that it's fascinating but it also has nothing to do with cell aging or apoptosis.

Even once removed, it counts as an acknowledgement of this much more helpful post.

Oddly enough, they do. We normally think of telomeres (specialized proteins at the ends of linear chromosomes) "shrinking" by attrition as cells reproduce, but microgravity seems to have a stretching effect (not more, but individually longer). Upon return to normal gravity, telomeres "snap back," but overshoot just a bit. One doesn't lose telomeres as one would during mitosis, but the physical length (when unwound and laid flat) is indeed shorter than before a stay in low gravity.

One of those too-strange-to-be-true things that is nevertheless true. No one knows if this changes the rate of apoptosis or the number of time a cell can reproduce.
It's not really some hill to die on, either way, especially in defense of Kennedy. When I read Kennedy's comment, though, my takeaway was more that he sounded like he was just being the usual snake oil salesman and mixing bits of truth with lots of BS.

I'm a pretty spacey guy and I'm also pretty sure my telomeres are shortening....hmmm.

Two National Guard members are in a critical condition after they were shot in Washington DC, FBI Director Kash Patel says

The suspect has been taken into custody and the scene near the White House is secured, police say

The attacker came around a corner at 14:15 local time (19:15 GMT), raised his firearm, and shot at the National Guard members, officials say

The suspect was also shot during the incident and taken to hospital - US President Donald Trump says they were "severely wounded"

Secretary of Defence Pete Hegseth says Trump has asked him to send 500 additional National Guard troops to Washington DC after the attack

The animal that shot the two National Guardsmen, with both being critically wounded, and now in two separate hospitals, is also severely wounded, but regardless, will pay a very steep price. God bless our Great National Guard, and all of our Military and Law Enforcement. These are truly Great People. I, as President of the United States, and everyone associated with the Office of the Presidency, am with you!

For many of the US national parks, you have to pay just to drive through (in some cases, to bicycle through) the park.
On top of the more expensive park passes for foreigners, the _____ administration is also going to add a $100 per PERSON surcharge for foreigners at the most popular national parks.

Looks like Donald is going to get his war.

Hegseth: President Trump has asked me, and I will ask the Secretary of the Army, the National Guard, to add 500 additional troops, National Guardsman, to Washington, D.C. This will only stiffen our resolve to ensure we make Washington, D.C., safe and beautiful. The drop in crime has been historic. The increase in safety and security has been historic. But if criminals want to conduct things like this, we will never back down.

Steve Bannon: No games. Recall Mark Kelly today. Convene the court-martial on Friday, verdict by Sunday, let’s go to Leavenworth and throw him in prison by Monday.

The other five will wet themselves, then let’s roll them up. Let’s go.

"Due Process"

Still at least they're lowering the temperature. I didn't previous think the US would descend into an actual civil war, but I'm nolonger so confident, it's hard to see a 'normal' route back to functional democracy.

Counterpoint: Underpaid workers will be forced to use the money to pay for necessities like food and rent keeping them productive while allowing corporations to continue to underpay them for a bit longer until they die of something preventable.
The vouchers will only be redeemable for health insurance, or more likely, only be avialable as a tax break if you show receipts.

It really does show how completely insulated he has always been from the real-world. He does not understand why people use insurance companies.

It reminds me of an episode of the "Harley Quinn" animated series in which the titular character was inside Bruce Wayne's mind, interacting with a version of him as a child. At one point she suggested that he use his fortune to ensure everyone in Gotham has affordable housing.
Cue a confused look and "People pay for housing?"

This is the Lincoln Memorial Reflecting Pool before Secretary of the Interior Doug Burgum and I fix it. Study it hard because you won't be seeing this Biden filth and incompetence much longer!

Charges against Donald Trump and others in an election interference case in the US state of Georgia have been dismissed.

Pete Skandalakis, the prosecutor who recently took over the case, said in court papers on Wednesday that he has decided to take no further action.

Functional democracy is dead. There is no path to anything remotely "normal."
