Cont: The Marjorie Taylor Greene thread - Part II

I honestly don't know what to make of this MTG breakup...it's not like it wasn't predictable, but as much as I agree with Trump that she is a ranting lunatic, the logical conclusion has to be that she is committing political suicide with the rift. At least statistically that has to be the result. She just doesn't seem bright enough to me to be making a calculated decision to break with Trump on the Epstein release and health care, even knowing that both those issues will be in line with the majority of even the Trumpist base. That would be a gamble that could pay off if the Trump implosion continues on schedule. So maybe she just happens to be completely and genuinely correct about a couple of important issues, even if she is a complete loon when it comes to other issues. She certainly would not be the first to be so inconsistent.
What puzzles me the most is how anyone---anyone! in Trumps circle or in his MAGA base can continue to support him, when they see how easily he discards even his most loyal supporters. How can they not know that eventually their time will come? I guess they just are trying to ride out the storm, then gobble up what is left of the MAGA base once Trump's implosion reaches fruition.

This breakup means nothing. Anyone remember the big breakup between Drumpf and Galaxy Brain? Does it matter anymore? Has it changed anything?

And with regards to supporting him, seeing how he throws anyone under the bus as soon as it suits him, well, that's one of the things they like about him. And what else could they do anyways? Everyone went all in with him.

You may be right that it won't change anything, but there is a distinction between her and Musk. He was never really MAGA. Many in Trump's base hated him. And he relented cause he needs Trump to maintain his empire and status. Also, we can't say for sure if it didn't change anything, cause if they had stayed on good terms, they could have done even more ambitious evil things as partners. None of this is true of MTG, she is a nobody to begin with and free to go rogue.

She's an idiot, but perhaps she may be a useful idiot.
^This. Between her and Boebert (and Mace...and on the side Tucker Carlson) they represent the hardcore loons of Trump's base. If he loses them, the less crazy might be more inclined to jump ship.

So what space aliens kidnapped MTG and replaced her with this impostor?
Jews with space lasers, I guess. I don't believe her act for a second. Toxic politics got her elected. If she wants to get re-eelcted, I don't think a change of strategy will satisfy her base.

Or fight to take the open spots at the Crazy Table. The one constant around Donald Trump is that there is always a line of people waiting to see if they're the ones who can finally share in his shenanigans without getting crap all over them.

Eventually he will lose them, because they were never really with him to begin with - they were with what he purportedly stood for. But much of that was just him 'reading the room' and telling them what they wanted to hear.

Why Marjorie Taylor Greene is suddenly turning on Donald Trump
What’s truly fascinating here is that this isn’t the first time in recent months that MTG has broken publicly with Trump, Congressional GOP leaders — or both. Far from it!

In just the last 6 months, Greene has criticized Trump over his decision to strike Iranian military sites, signed on to a discharge petition to force a vote on the release of files related to the Jeffrey Epstein investigation, balked at Trump’s decision to send more military equipment to Ukraine, said she should have voted against the One Big Beautiful Bill and called the situation in Gaza a “genocide.”
The point Chris Cillizza makes is that bowing down to Trump is actually out of character for MTG. As he says, she's always not liked leadership in the party. People ask why has she suddenly changed. The answer is she hasn't - Trump has, and his position no longer aligns with hers. Trump was supposed to be anti-war, now he isn't. Trump was supposed to release the Epstein files, now he isn't. Trump was supposed to be draining the swamp, now he isn't.

You may disagree with MTG over many things, even rightfully call her crazy for promoting conspiracy theories, but you can't correctly accuse her of not having integrity. She isn't blindly supporting Trump no matter what, and she's not afraid to call out things he does that she doesn't like. That's the real MTG - not just an act to get votes (but even if it was - so what? Politicians are elected to do what their constituents want). I believe her complaint about health insurance going up is genuine - firstly because who wouldn't be, and secondly because Trump promised costs would go down, not up.

And she's not the only one. If Trump pisses off too many of his 'base' he's going down, and he knows it. Expect to see a lot of backtracking and 'making up' in the few months, as Trump tries to placate them. But will it work? If he does the right thing in their eyes then yes, but that's getting a lot harder now.

I doubt very much that MTG is bothered by the toxicity, but when we become accustomed to something we start caring more about the flavor. Maga is too thin and oily. Needs more guacamole, and just a dash of brimstone.

Ordinary minions are tossed for being disloyal or ineffective. One must consider it a great distinction indeed to be tossed for being too crazy even for Trump. It's a supremacy few can match.

I agree--and, just as with MTG, this is nothing new for Trump. Because he has always been a conman who just appeals to the broadest camp of whoever will heap the most adoration on his fragile ego. He has successfully navigated thus far--he was in danger of losing a big part of his base when he touted Operation Warp Speed, but even the craziest anti-vaxxers ultimately forgave him. The Epstein matter could be his Kryptonite...

I'm skeptical. We on the left have been wish-casting Donald Trump's fall for years with no success. "Grab 'em by the you-know-what!? Well, his candidacy is over." "34 felony convictions? His base will drop him like a hot potato." We've been told for months that Pres. Trump is all over the Epstein files, but I bet he'll just skate on that too.

As long as we're wish-casting, I hope that MTG's willingness to oppose Trump is sincere, more than just a political maneuver. And I hope the fallout is that more people on the right start standing up to him like we've been hoping.

Donald J. Trump
@realDonald Trump

Wacky Marjorie "Traitor” Brown (Remember, Green turns to Brown where there is ROT involved!) is working overtime to try and portray herself as a victim when, in actuality, she is the cause of all of her own problems. The fact is, nobody cares about this Traitor to our Country!

Stephen Cheung must have gotten a tingle in his dingle when he wrote that.

I'm going with cynical political manoeuvre.
My theory is that she can see the writing on the wall and is trying to get ahead of everyone else, she wants to be the face of the "Not Donald" faction and is hoping the momentum will carry over when he craps himself to death
