Notable Passings and other milestones

A lot of her era's stars have paid tribute to Diane Keaton since her passing last Saturday, including Steve Martin. He posted “Loved!” on X, along with an image of a young Diane Keaton. Martin, who co-starred with Keaton in “Father of the Bride,” also posted on Instagram a snippet of an interview exchange in which Martin Short once asked Keaton who was sexier, him or Martin.

Diane Keaton passed away Saturday at age 79. Bette Midler shared some memories during an appearance on The Late Show with Stephen Colbert.

I have always been a fan of Dianne Keaton. She made Woody Allen films tolerable.

Steve Martin also posted an old school production programme of A Chorus Line in which he was the stagehand and Diane Keaton played the lead role.
The lead role in A Chorus Line? What lead role? That really was an ensemble production. Did she play the role of Cassie?

Ace Frehley, founding guitarist with theatrical rock band Kiss, dies at 74 - Los Angeles Times

Ace Frehley, who played lead guitar as a founding member of the face-painted, blood-spewing, fire-breathing hard-rock band Kiss, died Thursday in Morristown, N.J. He was 74.

His death was announced by his family, which said he’d recently suffered a fall. “In his last moments, we were fortunate enough to have been able to surround him with loving, caring, peaceful words, thoughts, prayers and intentions as he left this earth,” the family said in a statement.

In his alter ego as the Spaceman, Frehley played with the original incarnation of Kiss for less than a decade, from 1973 — when he formed the group in New York with Paul Stanley, Gene Simmons and Peter Criss

Drew Struzan - Iconic movie poster artist
Aww.... He was my favorite movie poster artist of all time (and that's saying a lot!). I don't think it would be an exaggeration to say that nearly everyone in the entire world has seen his work.
With bland Photoshopping becoming the norm, that's a level of art that will never be seen again. I have a few large books of his work.

I mostly only ever saw her on Lost in Space. I was surprised when I went back to the earliest black & white episodes, and initially she was a very strong figure, even rescuing her husband in an early bit. Soon after it became the Smith-Robot-Will show, she (and everyone else) were pretty much relegated to the background.
I remember the first half-hour of the show being in conflict with the Adam West Batman, so I missed a lot of those LIS episodes. (Thank tech for DVD sets -- I have both now and have seen every bit of both shows.)

That's the answer. The original concept for Lost In Space was reasonably hard science fiction. That was the first season. As competition mounted, the pressure from the network was to make it more lighthearted and funny, sort of a Gilligan's Planet. All the kids were watching Batman. CBS wanted them to watch Will Robinson and his robot.
