Problem is that the hatemonger machinery on the right will either take a single data point and show that one over and over, or just make ◊◊◊◊ up and repeat it over and over - like all the "footage" of US cities in flames, most of which are either not from the US or decades old. When you dig into any of it, it is either a nothingburger or originates from a nobody, amplified for maximum outrage.

As I alluded to earlier, if a fascist, upon being rightly being called out as a fascist, retorts with: "*You're* a fascist!", we do indeed at that point have a situation where "both sides" are calling each other fascist, but so what? That does not make their respective rhetorics equivalent in terms of accuracy, justness, prudence, or temperance.

Similarly, calling a candidate who has actually been convicted of crimes in a court of law a criminal who should be in jail is not equivalent to saying the same about a completely different candidate where there is no similarly credible legal or evidentiary basis, especially not if you are going to add that the latter should be "and/or" executed.

Very good point and a reason that one of the authors of the study discussed upthread cited for a decrease in political violence from the right.

In point of fact, we are seeing political violence from the right almost everyday, but it is state violence and therefore not considered traditional “political violence”.
