It's my takeaway from what Noem says in her ICE pep talk in the video Andy posted a couple of posts above. Sorry the fact it was a response was not clear. More posts appeared while I was replying.

(Edit) Ah, no, wait. I think Andy moved his post to the ICE thread. Ugh. I can't fix that on my phone. Maybe later I'll try to make it make sense.

I just googled it. There was a law passed in 1866 which prevents living people from appearing on currency. (Your referenced article suggests it "may" be illegal but from the looks of it it most definitely is.)

Not sure how they will get around it. Completely ignore the law? Print it as some sort of "non currency medallion" that you can buy/sell for $1? Keep the design and have it be released after Trump's death?

Of course a coin you could "buy" from the government but could never use as currency would be the perfect representation of the Trump administration and it's grift.

Or maybe it is just a design to placate Trump, and they never intend to release it.

ETA: maybe they will try and argue that "coins don't count as currency" so the law doesn't apply. I haven't found the text of the law so I don't know if it applies only to printed bills.

Imagien if ICE had done this to a majority white apartment building under Obama or Biden. It'd be headline news for months and there'd probably be violent reprisals from the other side. MAGA doing it to minorities? Crickets from the media and the usual suspects coming to their defence.

It's nice to think that maybe it will be legal by the time it's minted.. But no, there's a two year minimum period after the death.

We're dealing with the Trump administration here. The flimsiness of their brazen lies is fairly standard practice. They've adopted Vranyo and if we play along with their brazen lies, they win.

Safe Keeper (and a_unique_person) beat me to it, but it bears repeating in more depth. The Trump Administration acts to violate the Constitution itself regularly, as well as numerous other laws. Why would you think that their illegal treatment of this one would be different, provided that they're not more directly stopped?

With that said, they likely can be stopped, like most of the rest of their illegal actions that don't reach the Supreme Court and the 6 radical insane wing activists on it.
