Cont: Luton Airport Car Park Fire IV

Given that less than 5% of cars currently on the road are EVs, the EV haters can still get away with saying, oh well of course most of these fires are caused by ICE cars because most cars on the road are ICE models. But as EVs become more popular it's going to get harder and harder to support that. Then one day, maybe, an EV will cause such a fire. All hell will break loose.

And another one. At least the damage was fairly minor this time.

Despite the fire brigade saying clearly that it was a diesel car, the usual suspects are all over Twitter and Facebook insisting that it was an EV.

Also this.

Despite all the news reports saying that it was the transporter that caught fire, the fact that it was carrying EVs has the haters in a froth. Of course the chance of the battery in an EV that's switched off and minding its own business spontaneously going into thermal runaway is minuscule, whereas diesel lorries go on fire all the time. There is also no evidence at all of a lithium battery fire associated with the incident. It looks as if the cars' bodywork burned down around their batteries without the batteries catching fire - which is what usually happens when an EV is engulfed by an external fire.

In fact this is probably safer than if the transporter had been carrying ICE cars. The EVs' fuel supply didn't contribute to the conflagration, whereas cars with liquid fuel would inevitably have fuelled the flames, as it were. Nevertheless I'm sure YouTube videos are being rushed out at this moment denouncing these dangerous, spontaneously combusting EVs.

Totally off-topic, but can we come up with some other way to describe vehicles with Internal Combustion Engines than "ICE"? Because that acronym has gotten a rather nasty reputation in my country of late.
Wankmobiles????
KillerKars
(KillerKlownKars lol)

Or you could just rename your lot over there instead
How about Trumps Nazi Stormtroopers???

That's a snappy acronym for them
TNS

To bring this back to EV fires, Australia has a growing fleet of EVs but (unsurprisingly) hardly ever catch fire....

The EV Firesafe report can be found HERE and is relatively short (27 pages long)
(probably 26.9 pages too long for the anti EV nutters lol)

The British Broadasting Corporation feels your pain, or so I am told. I don't understand this post, obviously.

That's the problem with TLAs, they can stand for more than one thing - I remember when ICE was In-Car Entertainment.

And SLRs? Single Lens Reflex (camera) or Self Loading Rifle? Could be confusing when you say, "It's a nice day I think I'll go out and take a few shots with the SLR."

This reminds me of the time on the motoring forum when another member urged me to change my car's name (Caliban) because it reminded him of the word "Taliban".

Aside from Rule 34 decreeing that every TLA is also a porn genre, it's weird when you see pictures of Russian warplanes with "BBC" on the tailfin. Though in that case they're saying "VVS" in a Russian accent.

I think I missed this one while I was on holiday.

"The fire is being treated as accidental and believed to have been caused by an undetermined fault within the engine compartment of a diesel-powered car, the LFB said."

Maybe they should ban diesel cars from multi-storey car parks.
