Trump's Second Term

Vance: "If you're an American citizen and you've been to the hospital in the last few years, you've probably noticed that wait times are especially large and very often somebody who's there in the ER is an illegal alien. Why do those people get healthcare benefits at hospitals paid for by American citizens?"

Do what we want and the sombrero memes will stop

Reporter: What message does that send? Is it helpful to post pictures of these leaders and a sombrero?

Vance: Oh, I think it's funny. The president is joking.. I make a solemn promise to Hakeem Jeffries that if you help us reopen the government, the sombrero memes will stop

Reporter: China has not made one soybean purchase this year in the United States. I talked to a farmer yesterday who has about 1,000 acres in Iowa, who said this is killing them.

Leavitt: Supporting America's farmers and doing what is best for them is at the top of the president's priority list

Unsurprisingly, it's a complete lie that the Dems want illegal immigrants to get federal healthcare coverage. They cannot do so by law.

CLAIM: Democrats shut down the government because they want to give free health care to immigrants who entered the U.S. illegally.

THE FACTS: This is false. Democrats say they are pushing for the inclusion of key health care provisions in the next congressional spending package. In particular, they are seeking an extension of tax credits that millions of Americans use to buy insurance on the Affordable Care Act exchange and a reversal of Medicaid cuts made in the bill Trump signed into law in July. However, immigrants in the U.S. illegally are not eligible for any federal health care programs, including insurance provided through the Affordable Care Act and Medicaid. Hospitals do receive Medicaid reimbursements — which would be reduced under Trump’s bill — for emergency care that they are obligated to provide to people who meet other Medicaid eligibility requirements but do not have an eligible immigration status, according to KFF, a nonprofit health policy research, polling and news organization. This spending accounted for less than 1% of total Medicaid spending between fiscal years 2017 and 2023.

Anyone, regardless of immigration status, is entitled to life-threatening emergency care.

Donald is going to use this as an opportunity to get rid of left wing bureaucrats. It's fantastic.

Ted Cruz: "President Trump is going to use that as an opportunity not to tell people you're furloughed for a few days, but instead to send pink slips and to get rid of left-wing bureaucrats who are imposing left-wing priorities that are contrary to President Trump's priorities. I think that's fantastic."

Hospitals in the USA are required by law to provide emergency medical services under the Emergency Medical Treatment & Labor Act (EMTALA) of 1986. Most hospitals absorb the losses. Medicaid does not cover this care for non-qualified individuals

What they're saying, by the look of it, is that that's one of their current next targets to break.

You have to remember this is still Biden's economy. Trump's boom will start not long after you stop asking why it hasn't started yet. You won't believe how rich everyone is going to be just as soon as you stop talking about not being able to see any signs of improvement. You're jinxing it. Stop spoiling the magic, and just believe harder. Just look forward to everything being 1,000% to 1,200% cheaper, and stop trying to figure out what that means. Everyone's going to be too rich to care about counting their money, with all the trillions the other countries are sending us thanks to Trump.

For what it's worth, under normal circumstances it takes about 2 years for policy changes to actually really show their effects on the economy. In that sense, it would still be Biden's economy. Much like Trump coasted on Obama's economy, for all that he tried to attribute that to himself. Much like Biden was stuck working hard to fix Trump's economic disaster for at least half of his Presidency as Republicans screamed about how terrible he was. Much like Obama was screamed at by Republicans as they actively worked to sabotage him, too, as he worked to try to clean up their mess.

With that said, Trump's overwhelming sabotage of the economy is not normal. During his first term, the thing that headed off the economy crapping out because of Republican economic sabotage was the economy crapping out related to their sabotage in other areas and extreme mismanagement overall. This time, Trump's gone all in on sabotaging the economy in ways that have very immediate effects.

You mean looking out for the interests of all human beings, yes?

That's pretty much what it comes down to, yes. With that said, the Democratic Party is much less noble as a whole than many of its advocates like to portray it. Where Democrats actually do act to support "illegals" are generally areas that end up benefiting American citizens and the country as a whole far more than the "support" that they offer. Insofar as they're looking out for the interests of those "illegals," they're looking out for the interests of the US. Something of a case in point is the ongoing saga of Democrats supporting "due process," rather than the innocence or guilt of particular people. That was far less about supporting the person in question and far more about resisting decidedly Republican efforts to steal foundational rights from *all* American citizens. Relatively few of the accusations that Democrats are supporting "illegals" have much factual weight to them in the first place, though, as is again the case here where it has none at all.

Vance: "If you're an American citizen and you've been to the hospital in the last few years, you've probably noticed that wait times are especially large and very often somebody who's there in the ER is an illegal alien. Why do those people get healthcare benefits at hospitals paid for by American citizens?"

...The logic here. There are long waits and a tiny portion of that is caused by illegals. Even if we accept this unevidenced assertion, the obvious thing to do would be to work to address the major causes for the problem, not focus solely on what even he's presenting as a minor cause. What makes this worse, of course, is that the Republicans have been the ones outright sabotaging hospitals and that this shutdown is in part due to their attempts to sabotage hospitals more and again.

So where are the tweets from democrats debunking all this stuff ? Mediasphere is also a battlefield. These days even more important than the reality.

To some extent, does it matter where the tweets from the Democrats are? There are plenty floating about, of course, but there are very important things to be said about how algorithms tend to notably reduce their impact, not least because most of the most influential social media algorithms have been repeatedly tweeked to give Republicans more and more of an advantage, on top of how they have a notable role in solidifying polarization.

Going further to the rest of the media, what are their financial incentatives to amplify sensible Democratic Party voices, really? Generally notably less than they have to amplify craziness to hook the emotions of passersby.

If y'all (aka "youse guys") want to be technically accurate, you really can't call the fat clown and his maga weirdoes "NAZIS".

The correct term, for accuracy's sake, would be nazi-like, but that's just the writer in me.

Your mileage may vary of course.

ETA: I posted this in the CK thread, but I figured what hell, I'll post it here too.

Insofar as they only emulate the spirit of why the Nazis actually were so bad, rather than the specific policies, that's true enough. There's a reason why they're called fascists far more often, given that that's less specific, policy-wise, while still retaining much the same spirit of being evil and harmful to everyone, very much including most of those that truly supported it.

Vance and little Mikie solving Medicaid problem! No more 30 year olds enjoying Medicaid playing video games all say. No more illegals cluttering up emergency rooms.

Now, if Trump could only fix Oregon. But the National Guard need $$. To ship them there. Maybe Trump does not know how government works?

And after the mass lay-offs and shutting down of services? Then what, when the shut-down inevitably ends? You will have hundreds of thousands more unemployed, and they will be righteously angry about how that happened and who did that to them, PLUS their labour and services won't be available, leading to reductions or even elimination of necessary national services. How to lose friends and influence people!

But hey. Private enterprise will boom. Just ask the tourism and hospitality industries. Booming...

ETA: And the soybean farmers. They are thrilled too. They can't get their handouts for not selling their crops due to Trump tariffs until government comes back. But I'm sure they understand and appreciate Donny's tactics and can wait a few weeks more to eat.
