And since "antifa" isn't an "organization" with a unified hierarchical structure, centralized leadership, membership rolls, or anything like that, they can just designate anyone they choose as "antifa".
It's like a line someone used to intimidate a suspect in an episode of NCIS.

I'm not expecting the gunman to have been particularly cool-headed and rational, so would not be surprised if he hadn't thought through exactly what his target was.

He was a big proponent of natural selection through the survival of the fittest, and he justified the Holocaust with it. That's about as far as it went as him being a "scientist," never mind the fact that purposely murdering things defies the very concept of "NATURAL" selection. Nothing naturally goes out of its way specifically hell-bent on murdering an entire species just to murder it. Except for humans who completely misunderstand the concepts of science and logic.
