Did you do links adding black color or something? On dark screen mode, they don't show up.
eta: looks like you changed them, thanks!
Sorry, I didn't know about the dark screen mode, but I'll keep that in mind from now on.

That's the reason I left the comment up; a lot of us forget about dark v light screen, so it's a composition consideration recommendation. We are all working the new forum out together.Sorry, I didn't know about the dark screen mode, but I'll keep that in mind from now on.
The article doesn't say, but has any pedestrian been hurt there? We have a rainbow crossing in the nearest big town - https://www.reading.gov.uk/news/council-repaints-rainbow-crossing-in-pride-month/
But that pales beside the controversy of another road junction just down the road in Wokingham, that was changed from a double mini roundabout to a more free-form layout, decorated with painted leaves and no explicit crossing.

Nice, but I think the stripes should be rotated 90° - would make it more obvious it was a crossing. IMO, of course. We have a rainbow crossing in the nearest big town - https://www.reading.gov.uk/news/council-repaints-rainbow-crossing-in-pride-month/
I tend to agree with that. There's also a photo one up thread that is rotated 90 degrees and alternating with white stripes. Less obviously a pride thing but more obviously a crosswalk.Nice, but I think the stripes should be rotated 90° - would make it more obvious it was a crossing. IMO, of course.
I've got to say, that does look dangerous, how do even know where lanes are if any? I wouldn't be surprised to see folks driving straight through either. We have a rainbow crossing in the nearest big town - https://www.reading.gov.uk/news/council-repaints-rainbow-crossing-in-pride-month/

Quoted the wrong thing, I meant this.Really? Even if someone were using it?I
Do you know how many pedestrians were hit using this sidewalk? I can't find that info anywhere.

The analysis found significantly improved safety performance across a variety of measures during periods when asphalt art was installed.
None as far as I'm aware. My opinion is that it's safer than the previous road layout, and the various criticisms are ill-founded. Similar schemes elsewhere may appear confusing, but that's rather the point, they cause the motorist to slow down and pay attention. The article doesn't say, but has any pedestrian been hurt there?
I'm not aware of any incidents since the junction was modified. The safety report found no incidents in the three years before the change, either. On the other hand, I was once (many years ago) nearly wiped out when going round the junction on my bicycle by a driver looking at their phone rather than the road.I kind of figured you were, but I'm still looking for info on how many pedestrians were hit using that crosswalk.
From a 2022 national study:
I'm moderately surprised. The first photo doesn't show an of the actual crosswalks, they are there but probably slightly inconvenient for walkers, which wouldn't surprise if folks were complaining on account that. They notice inconvenience everytime they do something, we never notice the time we weren't even close to being hit by a car.I kind of figured you were, but I'm still looking for info on how many pedestrians were hit using that crosswalk.

Bear in mind that indigo is a plant from which a dark blue dye is made. Having the darker section in the "bluish" range be called indigo isn't a grand leap.Indigo can't even decide what colour it is. It's only in the list of rainbow colours because Newton said so, and it's very likely that what he called "blue" is what we call cyan, and what he called "indigo" is what we call blue. Is there a colour between what you call blue and violet that you feel the need to name separately? Nor me. So just say blue
It will make them sad, lonely and blue?Whatever you do, don't let the Indigos think that you are not happy, friend citizen.
Just before dawn on Monday morning, crews began to sand down the pavement as a massive cold planing machine began to pave over the rainbow pride crosswalk at Westheimer and Taft in Houston's Montrose neighborhood. A loose collective of community members at the scene ensured that the crosswalk didn't go without a fight. A two-and-a-half-hour stand-off between officers with the Houston Police Department and protestors ensued when the protestors stood in the crosswalk and refused to move.
Officers from HPD and METRO police stood in front of the massive milling machine while the small gaggle of protestors refused to move. Some joked with each other, while others chatted with the construction workers who had nothing to do. The reader flipped through her Marcuse book with a smirk on her face. The acoustic guitar player played Black Sabbath. A construction worker who spoke with Chron and asked to remain anonymous said that he had "no problem" with the LGBTQ+ community or the rainbow crosswalk, but that he had a job to do.
The crosswalk was painted over in September, then repainted in October after community outcry. Abbott demanded that it and others like it be removed after outcry from conservative activists and state representatives, and now it will soon be removed once again.
Cold planing and resurfacing the entire intersection seems like massive overkill for removing a crosswalk. If all they were after was eliminating a rainbow, seems like sandblasting would be a better approach, or even just painting over it.
In this day and age of selective reporting laden with emotional appeals to boost ratings... I wonder if this is just normal paving that happens to be at an intersection with flamboyant crosswalks.
Abbott demanded that it and others like it be removed after outcry from conservative activists and state representatives, and now it will soon be removed once again.
"Instead of at least attempting to stand up to Abbott and to stand up to these authoritarian demands, they decide to do it in the dead of night," Panzarella said. "It's frustrating and it's sad that we have to be here at two in the morning."
"Huge kudos to Houstonians that fought harder than our mayor did," Panzarella said of the protestors.
