Merged Charlie Kirk shot at Utah Valley University event. / Charlie Kirk Shot And Killed

The left should be destroyed, they have to confess and apologise.

Not Fascist at all

Watters: These people are incapable of turning the temperature down. So it's our responsibility to do it for them for the safety of the country and for their own safety.

Their heinous movement should be politically destroyed, systematically dismantled. Their financial backing should be bankrupted, their media sponsors defeated in the marketplace, their candidates beaten at the ballot box.

And their acolytes in academia, behind the pulpit, in city councils and corporate America will be spotlighted and given one chance to confess and apologize. If they don't, thrown out of polite society. We cannot live with people and work with people like this. They can't teach our children, they can't be trusted with power and positions of authority.

The lack of self-awareness is staggering.

I'm not sure I wanted to know any of this.

I had come across the "noticers" during COVID. A lot of antivaxers being Nazis (as in saying that Hitler was a great leader, not just people who were a bit right wing) had a big overlap with the groyper subculture so, unfortunately, it looked very familiar to me.

I was surprised how familiar my 22 year old daughter was with Kirk, although not surprised at her attitude, which was pretty much "horrible person got killed by what he was trying to instigate"

Think this through. What's the point of labeling people fascists or nazis, when they aren't in actual fact fascists or nazis?

It's so that killing them is seen as justifiable.
What is your definition of Nazi and fascist that these people don't count? Clearly wanting to end elections isn't enough, hating minorities isn't enough, the way they tie business and government together isn't enough, what is enough to label someone a fascist or nazi?

TIme is always a factor. If you go back 100 years, then left wing violence and eco-terrorism might take the win. But I figure 50 years is a span of time that the majority of us have been influenced by. Sure, some of us were toddlers, some not even born - but I think pretty much all of us have experienced direct effects from 1975 onward. We could probably make an argument to go back to 1950 and include the civil rights movement, because it certainly had lasting influences on my childhood.

Yes, those under 45 are about 2x as likely to approve of political violence, regardless of politics - and that's a concern all by itself. It's also higher among liberals of all ages than conservatives or moderates. All of it concerns me quite a bit. And it really concerns me that so very many people are completely unwilling to even stop and consider whether or not political rhetoric from the left could be adding to the problem. I'm not saying that political rhetoric from the right isn't part of the problem - but it's clearly not a one-sided problem.
Why weren't you saying any of this when the CDC was attacked? Fortunately the only death was a black cop and everyone knows in America black lives don't matter.

We don't have a dictator in the US. And every single president we've ever had has claimed to represent the will of the nation.
So does Putin so clearly he isn't a dictator and trying to have a coup doesn't make someone a wanabe dictator either I see. Are there any real dictators? How does the Trump 2028 official merch weigh in things?

There is no love like christian love.

Ok, not really fair of me, I've known many good and loving chistians. One of my best friends in the world is a very faithful mormon. I've known him for over 55 years and he is as good a person as I've ever met. Far better than me. But like any large group you have good and bad folks. I guess the bad people who claim a high horse for being christian chap my ass because they talk about love and goodness while spitting hate.

I suppose those people exist in all groups. But it still chaps my ass.
So how good a mormon was he when they banned blacks from the higher levels of heaven? Remember being black made one morally inferior to proper white folk in mormonism until 1979.

RIP

It's interesting how this site is not wanting to address this. Had it been a notable liberal activist I'm sure the chattering class here would be talking more about it. Frankly I'm grateful to see there's not as much gloating as I anticipated even though I'm sure it's still there. This was one of the biggest political assassinations in the United States in a long time and it's been covered all across the news and in the White House and Congress but not here because..... reasons.
Once the liberal activist killer is apprehended I'll look forward to the excuse making here and any lack of condemnation in fact I'll expect Maga to be blamed regardless of who the shooter is. James RandI would be embarrassed by this site.
I gave this killing the same amount of mourning that I would have for Hitler's or Mussolini's and for the exact same reasons. Just because Kirk hadn't the means to murder millions doesn't excuse the fact he would have done so, given the sniff of a chance.

Almost certainly more influenceed by Stalinism given Orwell's history
Yeah the blatant denial of yesterday's truth is the Stalinist version of propaganda , the airbrushing out and in of people, the we've always been at war with Eurasia and so on, and of course the secret police. There is of course some overlap with the Nazi propaganda. I was really meaning the wholesale denial of the truth, the 180 degree turns and then that's always been the case. The redefining of words and meanings, words meaning the exact opposite and so on.

What is your definition of Nazi and fascist that these people don't count? Clearly wanting to end elections isn't enough, hating minorities isn't enough, the way they tie business and government together isn't enough, what is enough to label someone a fascist or nazi?
I guess that a significant minority (maybe even a majority of them) don't think Hitler was a great person.

Just how well known outside of the terminally online was Charlie Kirk? Because all I see from people praising him are these vague statements about free speech and being a conservative activist. No one seems to pinpoint any specific actions or quotes from him that were insightful or intelligent or beneficial to society. But, there are plenty of examples of him saying some really vile and inflammatory things. There's the list he made of professors and students to target for harassment (and worse).

There was just nothing remarkable about him. He was a younger, louder, stupider Ben Shapiro. He was just another nondescript, mediocre, easily replaceable, shameless white guy with a billionaire sugar daddy. would someone really expect to get famous for shooting him?
To be fair, being stupider than Ben Shapiro is a remarkable achievement. He can stand up there in the pantheon among such greats as the pillow guy and Tucker Carlson.

My own historical perspective.

Fifty-five years ago, I took Economics 101 from a man who could have lectured in Cuba, Mainland China and the Soviet Union. His colleague from the University of Chicago, Milton Friedman, could lecture only in the United States of America. He knew full well that a Chinese Friedman, if not already executed, was in prison for life, under house arrest or still lecturing in secret and in fear of being found out by the authorities.

There was no moral dilemma for my professor since there was no moral compass. The State simply overruled the individual. If the Chinese Freidman was apprehended, his character would be questioned by the State and held up for ridicule in front of the rest of the community.

It is interesting, especially after a few Chinese and Russian individuals lost their lives in the 20th Century, that there are those in the West who will do all they can to destroy the lives of their neighbors who do not bow to the State.

Just a thought.
So instead of being killed, Friedman killed millions. Not that great of a moral to your story.
