Merged Charlie Kirk shot at Utah Valley University event. / Charlie Kirk Shot And Killed

What exactly would convince you this was true, or are you already assuming such is the case?
I think it's much more likely to be true than not, but it's certainly falsifiable. We have heard that the shooter disapproved of Kirk's politics, we have heard that he was apparently the lover of a trans-identifying male. The biggest argument against is that he comes from a conservative family, as if it is impossible for the children of conservatives to grow up leftist.

We haven't heard from the shooter yet? Would that convince you?

I would say let's see who ends up being embarrassed, but I know you guys will quit this thread the moment it is conclusive that he's a lefty TRA, thus avoiding all the embarrassment.
Uhh... it's his tenant who is accused of being trans, not the shooter himself. And even that is extremely tenuous at best. So it's a desperately thin story all the right wing hype is running with. So thin that it only makes them look incredibly stupid, but it's the only one that fits their faction's groupthink narrative.

I wonder if they'll actually change anything:

Utah campus open carry permit under fresh scrutiny after Kirk shooting

As authorities at the federal and state levels parse the details of the fatal shooting of far-right activist Charlie Kirk at a university in Utah, a recently passed state bill that allows people with concealed-carry permits to carry firearms openly on college campuses has drawn fresh scrutiny.

Utah has allowed for permitless open and concealed carry of weapons since 2021. But before the passage of HB 128, firearms had to be concealed when carried on college campuses. The law allowed people with the proper permit to carry them openly.

I would not hold my breath waiting for him to talk. Assuming he has a lawyer, he will stay completely silent and it may be years before he utters another word.

Didn't he confess or did he just turn himself in?

Nobody lives in a bubble in the age of social media. Everyone this guy had any contact with is going to be airing all the dirty laundry they can recall. We'll know more about him than he does, right pronto.

He looks to me to be unhinged extreme right wing, so no unwavering loyalty to any particular talking head and very inclined to resolve disagreements with a bullet in said head.

Rumors say he confessed to the killing, some say to his father some say to the pastor, but regardless that was presumably before he had representation. I am not sure if he has a lawyer yet but he will for sure before he is brought into court. At that point, the only thing he will say is "Yes" when asked if he understands his rights, and "Not guilty" once he is arraigned.

i was the one who wrote you reap what you sow. charlie kirk’s contributions to society specifically as it relates to gun culture are undeniable. and while that may make you uncomfortable, but that’s not a celebration of his death nor a justification for it. deserved would be an equally incorrect description. it’s an indifferent observation of his role in the circumstances that lead to it.

i am indifferent to his death.
I like this take

There are so many layers of irony in Kirk’s shooting.

First, an advocate of people dying from gun violence was killed by gun violence.

Second, a person who made his living radicalizing youth was killed by a radicalized youth.

But I think the most striking irony is that Kirk was literally in the middle of blaming trans people for mass shootings when a member of the demographic actually most responsible for mass shootings shot and killed him.

It’s absolutely Serlingesque.

Sen. Katie Britt: "If you are out there and you are celebrating the political assassination of a man who was exercising his free speech ... you should be held accountable. You should be fired. And that is the beginning and the end of it. Full stop."

Wait a sec...

Didn't your own president pardon and praise all the insurrectionists who attacked and killed Capitol police on 6th Jan 2021? Who crowed about the blatantly political killing of 11 innocent, untried people in a boat on open waters?

Get the log out of your own eye, jeeez!

Thus is the power of Trans. Even being within the vicinity of someone who *might* be Trans for a paltry part of your life will undo all the good honest god fearing rightwing education, even the bits where you should only shoot left wing targets.
Nice take on the Trans thing.

TLDW this is 100% groyper /incel alt right and often being closeted (by a woman who grew up in a cult)

I thought it was his landlord. But it's it's a distinction that makes no significant difference.

You know what might have helped Charlie Kirk not being killed?
Not making guns be a 'cool' thing to have.
Not normalizing training teenagers in using sniper rifles
Not allowing people to have guns and ammo in the same location unless they are at a shooting range or out hunting.
And maybe make the permit needed to own a gun have actual requirements, I'd say above an US driving license.

Maybe doing even ONE of these things would have ensured Charlie would not have died.
