Yeah, he should have gone with "adult male human". But nobody's perfect. At least he was on campus talking to people he disagreed with, instead of shooting them.
The problem with making one's living from online punditry is that you need to rise above the noise. In the political arena, that often means being more shrill and inflammatory than everyone else.No one seems to pinpoint any specific actions or quotes from him that were insightful or intelligent or beneficial to society. But, there are plenty of examples of him saying some really vile and inflammatory things. There's the list he made of professors and students to target for harassment (and worse).
The Denver Post reported later Thursday that social media accounts apparently belonging to the suspect were filled with white supremacist content, posts exhibiting a fascination with mass shootings and reposted videos that “were explicitly antisemitic or depicted people in Nazi uniforms.”
Kash Patel's performance at the news conference reminded me of an acceptance speech at the Academy Awards.
Governor Cox came across as a serious statesman. Under difficult circumstances, he performed very well.
Cox said something like "Social media is a cancer on our society." I have to say some of the remarks I've seen in this thread support that statement.
Yes, Charlie Kirk was a prolific source of extreme rhetoric, and those who regard his rhetoric as hate speech are not entirely wrong. But he did not deserve to die. Kirk's assassin went beyond rhetoric, beyond hate speech. No one should excuse this murder.
what do you mean "local" law enforcement? The Head of the FBI tweeted that they had caught the shooter yesterday. On the other hand, local law enforcement is receiving considerable criticism for the premature announcements of suspects in custody and the publication of the names of people initially detained but then released. Apparently there have been credible threats of violence against these people.
HisWell that type of person likes to say 'an armed society is a polite society'. And now they know the mechanism behind it.
Huh?RIP
It's interesting how this site is not wanting to address this. Had it been a notable liberal activist I'm sure the chattering class here would be talking more about it. Frankly I'm grateful to see there's not as much gloating as I anticipated even though I'm sure it's still there. This was one of the biggest political assassinations in the United States in a long time and it's been covered all across the news and in the White House and Congress but not here because..... reasons.
Once the liberal activist killer is apprehended I'll look forward to the excuse making here and any lack of condemnation in fact I'll expect Maga to be blamed regardless of who the shooter is. James RandI would be embarrassed by this site.
He wasn't hired for his law-enforcement skill and certainly not for his looks. And he doesn't seem to have any charisma.Kash Patel's performance at the news conference reminded me of an acceptance speech at the Academy Awards.
Gov. Cox is always well composed and congenial in front of the cameras, but I've seen him in more candid circumstances where he can give off a lot of loose-canon energy. His politics are terrible, since he got elected as a moderate but then swung hard-right MAGA. But yes, in this particular case he came off sounding cool and professional, even while reciting the lyrics to the Italian revolutionary song, "Bella ciao."Governor Cox came across as a serious statesman. Under difficult circumstances, he performed very well.
It's not hard to agree with the general sentiment that social media is becoming a "cancer." But this is also a dog whistle to Utahns who want to heavily restrict children's access to social media and other online activities.Cox said something like "Social media is a cancer on our society." I have to say some of the remarks I've seen in this thread support that statement.
My attitude remains the same as it was yesterday. I live in a very red state, and I have liberal views that I often say publicly. I associate with liberal causes and liberal public figures here. If we start thinking or saying that unpopular views deserve a bullet, then I might just have a target on my chest too.Yes, Charlie Kirk was a prolific source of extreme rhetoric, and those who regard his rhetoric as hate speech are not entirely wrong. But he did not deserve to die. Kirk's assassin went beyond rhetoric, beyond hate speech. No one should excuse this murder.
What is this replying to?Good job couching your empathy in vitriol and preemptive accusations. In fact, you've done such a good job, I have a hard time finding the empathy. Is that ... no, that's just narcissism. I'll keep looking though.
According to the reporting I've seen, the FBI announced that they had a subject in custody, but it was the Utah Department of Public Safety who published his name.what do you mean "local" law enforcement? The Head of the FBI tweeted that they had caught the shooter yesterday.
Just how well known outside of the terminally online was Charlie Kirk? Because all I see from people praising him are these vague statements about free speech and being a conservative activist. No one seems to pinpoint any specific actions or quotes from him that were insightful or intelligent or beneficial to society. But, there are plenty of examples of him saying some really vile and inflammatory things. There's the list he made of professors and students to target for harassment (and worse).
There was just nothing remarkable about him. He was a younger, louder, stupider Ben Shapiro. He was just another nondescript, mediocre, easily replaceable, shameless white guy with a billionaire sugar daddy. would someone really expect to get famous for shooting him?
His deitization is well underway. This site is irrelevant to that process.RIP

Sanctification rather than deification, I think; saint rather than god.His deitization is well underway. This site is irrelevant to that process.
Maybe. We will have to see how it plays out.Sanctification rather than deification, I think; saint rather than god.
Yeah, I posted a video of him saying it somewhere upstream. As Kirk said about empathy: "I can't stand the word empathy. Actually, I think empathy is a madeup new age term that is does a lot of damage."
(That is a genuine quote from Charlie Kirk.
