America Mourns Charlie Kirk?

Sorry, but I don't mourn him any more than I'll mourn Trump when he dies. Do I approve of him being murdered? Absolutely not. But he spewed hate and bigotry. I won't mourn him.
Balance. ;)

what are you even upset about here?

none of you guys who are trying to scold everyone else for their indifference to charlie kirk's murder, which i'll remind you that charlie kirk's political views basically were indifference to other people's murder, none of you guys are sad or care either. like, get over yourself lol

When you’re aligned with a political ideology that is not only responsible for most political violence but has actually made it part of their identity, you take these moments where you can.

The Movie Zone (TMZ) explains why, just as they were announcing Charlie Kirk had been pronounced dead after being shot during a Utah rally, laughter, cheering and clapping broke out in the studio. Yes folks, yes indeedy, it was all a tragic coincidence.
Charlie Kirk Assassination Apology for Tone Deaf Laughter, It Wasn't About Him
We want to address something that happened during our TMZ Livestream coverage of the assassination of Charlie Kirk. As Harvey and Charles were reporting the developments in our newsroom, there were employees in another part of the building watching a car chase. The people watching that car chase began laughing and clapping in reaction to what they were seeing, but we want to make it clear ... they were not cheering in response to the assassination. Nevertheless ... watching a car chase at that moment was tone deaf, and the sounds of laughter at that crucial moment were totally out of line. We apologize to anyone who heard that as we were in the middle of covering such a tragic story. TMZ statement link

The CEO of TMZ issued the following statement:
I just want to add, if you believe that statement, I have some beachfront property in the Mojave Desert you might be very interested in. You can lock it up with a moderate down payment! Interested? Email me at oneborneveryminute dot net

Won't have a lasting impact unless another far-righz figure gets killed.
Trump will do something outrageous and that's where the attention will go - despite everything, Kirk isn't that famous.
Sure, Republicans will desperately try to use it, but for what? They already are in power, and the economy is going down.
That matters more to people than the fate of some evil nutter

I've always felt that human beings I disagree with politically deserve to die. No, wait! They deserve to be treated as human beings who are wrong, but not evil. And in retrospect, sometimes I was wrong and they were right. That has never happened to many of the posters in this thread; they have always been correct.
I'm sorry, but this is just disrespectful. A man has died, Brainster. I prefer to remember Mr. Kirk as he lived: downplaying mass shootings and telling victims to go ◊◊◊◊ themselves.

In his own words:
Charlie Kirk said:
We cannot allow [shooting victims] to emotionally hijack the narrative.
Amen, amirite?

To be more specific, Utah recently relaxed its concealed carry laws, allowing carrying concealed weapons at state-operated schools including UVU. Kirk spoke in favor of that change. It's hard for me to fathom how a philosophy of proliferating weapons isn't somehow encouraging violence as a solution. Kirk's politics were divisive and incendiary. But as a liberal living in a pretty red state, I don't want an environment where shooting someone is an acceptable answer to statements you disagree with.
I agree - gun violence is not a solution to anything.

My point was that Kirk will be just one of about 9 or 10 people on average in the USA to die by guns on this same day, and for each and every day of any year. And every one of them was a living, breathing human being, just like he was. So he isn't special in any way, and deserves no more "honouring" than any of the other victims do. Conversely, all the other victims deserve as much "honouring" as he does. But they weren't Trump favourites or celebrities, so they will go completely unnoticed.

And of course, Trump's HR farm has already turned this into an anti-leftist crusade. The shooter hasn't even been caught let alone questioned as to motives and politics, and yet they know already it must be a leftist assassin aligned with the Democrats, etc. etc. How remarkably convenient of them to have the telepathy to know all this as facts. :sarcasm:

(headline: America Mourns Kirk, from the New York Times)
Questions about that:
- Is it real?
- Who actually wrote it? (I know some newspapers occasionally have opinion pieces from certain political guest writers... was this the case or was it an anonymous piece)
- What is the piece actually like? does it try to make Kirk out to be some political figure respected by all, or does it actually give a more honest accounting?

(post suggesting Trump signed an order mandating the death penalty for the shooter)
Ok, if that is true...

Lets set aside the fact that Trump does not have the legal authority to do that for a moment...
Isn't something like that going to backfire? It gives the defense in the trial the opportunity to say "we could not get a fair trial because of presidential interference".

Of course at this point we do not know if this was a case of a 'left wing' activist deciding to fight back by shooting a well-known Conservative, or whether the shooter had some other non-political motive.

Remember, the Trumps "attempted assassin/shooter" actually had republican ties. It would not be surprising if the shooter was another right-winger doing things for non-political motives.... fame, mental illness, etc.

(Not that I would expect most MAGAchud to actually listen to evidence.)
It won't matter. Those on the right who support people like Kirk will not believe any other outcome than "it was a radical leftist". This will be ramped up to the max by people like Trump. I expect "retaliation", endorsed by Republican politicians.

Honest to ◊◊◊◊◊◊◊ god, all these schoolkids getting gunned down and we're gonna half-mast the flag for this hate-filled, racist mother ◊◊◊◊◊◊?
The property managers for the building I work for instructed me to have the maintenance department put the flags at half staff tomorrow morning. Not that they give a ◊◊◊◊ about Kirk, they follow flag protocol from the POTUS no matter what but gosh darn it, i forgot pass that directive along.

My bad.
