The sinking of MS Estonia: Case Reopened Part VII

Exactly. The guy wouldn't be going into cabin 6230 unless it was on the agenda in the first place. Plus being made to keep reading the tag until they were sure of the name was part of a preplanned task to find and identify that attaché case. Why? Because Captain Avo Piht was a key personnel. .
They needed to positively identify Voronin's briefcase because Piht was "a key personnel"?

Well you learn something new.
I've never come across or used UHF handheld radio, my experience with radio is all VHF and HF SSB. I will investigate further.
HF SSB has largely been replaced with sat phones now.
UHF CB is very common here- this is one of the very battered handhelds I use in the tilt tray for example (one of three- used to be 4 but one died lol- as you can see they have a hard life in the tow truck...)

476Mhz UHF CB- its not all countries however that its legal in...
That's one the handheld ones I use on long distance winchouts, or for 'traffic control' around blind corners and the like- theres a 'mobile' (fixed) set in both the towtruck and my ute- practically every car in town has a UHF cb out here....

Thats the UHF cb antenna on the passengers front guard- the black one...

The sad thing is that even though multiple posters have explained to Vixen exactly why the video proves the divers were not seeking the briefcase they found, that information will not have gone in. It'll barely leave a mark.

Next time the topic is recycled, if we're all still around to see it, they will be back on a desperate, secret mission to retrieve the brief case.
Its all a jedi mind trick...
'this is not the briefcase you are looking for'

Are you seriously going to try to make us believe the diver and controller were playacting and pretending not to be searching for the case? That the did know the name Voronin and pretended to get it wrong? That the diver didn't move on with his search with empty hands?

This may require popcorn.
Bugga popcorn, this may require hard drugs...
And copious amounts of them.....

Don't forget the secret second audio link which was not recorded. Thd two brilliant actors had to pretend to fumble the name Voronin and not say it properly in case it was a secret pseudonym for agent Piht. This gave time for their secret CIA handler to check that Voronin was not a code name for their man and they should feign disinterest and move on.

It's bound to be that.

Oh dear. Bobby Fisher's mother herself was a Polish Jew. Stop conflating anti-Zionism or anti-Americanism with anti-Semiticism, a popular tool to shut down debate which might actually be valid and worthwhile as far as peace in the Middle East goes. Fisher had a grievance against the US because of how he perceived it victimised him for playing in Yugoslavia. I would have thought that someone who claims to be in International Relations would be aware of the geopolitical nuances. As for Bjorkman, his name drives people crazy because he is ex-naval academy and spotted flaws in the JAIC's assumptions, for example, that a ship could float on it superstructure.
You do know that Fischers holocaust denial is on record right?

Bjorkman is a delusional crank who lied about his qualifications.

Oh we're back to the terrible pulp spy novel again.
When cornered, make a joke of it, to avoid ever admitting the evidence you just presented proves your exciting spy story is false.

Like I said; next time this bit of the story comes around, Vixen will once again tell us (someone) said the divers were sent to find Piht's briefcase. Just as if all of this never happened.

Anti-Semitism is a position (or set of positions) that anyone can take, positions that Fischer did, in fact, take. That he was Jewish does not prevent him from being anti-Semitic. Learn to argue better.

ETA: deleted a drafted portion I hadn't intended to post.

No. The recording of the dive supports absolutely no suggestion they were searching for a briefcase, whether Piht's, Voronin's or anyone else's. They searched multiple cabins on deck 6 and Voronin's was only one of them.

The phrase "to search for" is compete speculation which the dive video not only does not support, but their matter-of-fact behaviour and lack of excitement at finding a case says pretty firmly you are wrong.
What's funny is that not only does the video indicate she was wrong, the "top commenter" she makes a point of quoting disagrees with her: their thesis is that the divers were clearly looking for *Voronin's* briefcase, not Piht's. But this discrepancy is allowed to pass without comment. CT professional courtesy, I guess.

Many a true word spoken in jest! You should write spy fiction as you are good at this. But seriously, does anyone really believe the diver is simply strolling around the cabin like a tourist and it was a case of, 'Oh look! I've found a briefcase here...amongst a load of other suitcases and bags!" Controller: 'Oh wow. That is so amazing!' Diver, 'Wait, there's a name tag on it!' Controller: 'No! That's fantastic! What does it say?' Diver: 'It's fricking forrin!' Controller: 'Spell it, then.' 'Alpha, romeo, november, india' "OMG! This is so exciting! Spell it again, Sam!" <fx diver repeats various spellings> "Just let me see if that name rings a bell - " Diver: 'There's a babushka here as well, which I'll film so as to show he's a Russian". Controller, 'That's super! Is there anything else that grabs your attention?' We-eeelll!

Why are you making up fantasies when you can just watch the video and see what actually happened?

This is drivel. I'd say you're better than this but you're not.

Well, it was a secret mission, wasn't it? So obviously the divers and their supervisor will have gone to great lengths to make it sound as if they weren't looking for the briefcase. And that is exactly how it sounds! The tape is proof of a plot to cover up the secret mission!!!
I remember at the time this was first discussed Vixen claimed there was a second, secret dive master talking to the divers but we couldn't hear them on the recordings.

It prompted a detailed discussion of how communications with divers actually works.

Can you point us to the part of the video where that happens?
