MAGA after Trump - What happens after Trump is dead ?

Did any of his current rabid worshippers give a damn about Trump before he ran for president (the second time, people seem to forget he ran years earlier and it never came to anything)? No, he was just a reality TV washup and perennially failing real estate guy. He became the focal point of the mad mob, and once he's dead they're not going to suddenly become sane and reasonable: they'll just refocus to a new idol. The various oligarchs and tech bros and fascist plotters probably each have candidates in mind, the best hope sanity has is that they don't agree on the same candidate and fall out with each other.
It's incredible how obsessive they are, though. Watch videos from 2020 of the media announcing Biden's victory, and of the massive street celebrations. The trumpkins are still crawling all over them like ants, posting a neverending stream of salty comments even four-five years later. On the one hand it's a source of amusement, and it can be fun calling them out for not being able to move on, but at the same time it's kinda disturbing.

I just wonder what will happen to that obsessive energy once he dies. Will it just fizzle out or will they look for something or someone new to obsess about?

As for who his successor will be? Who knows. JD Vance is a bumbling clown and doesn't seem to have a fraction of Dump's (to his followers) charisma. Dump won't appoint anyone because he probably doesn't care one iota what happens after he's dead. For all he's concerned, he's the only thing that matters in the universe, so why would he bore himself with appointing a crown prince? I'm buying popcorn for the epic power struggle, though🍷.

I think Trump believes that if he died everything would blink out of existence. But obviously that couldn't happen because He is the bright centre of the universe.

A girlfriend of mine was worried about the Tea Party, whenever that was peaking. I said "Don't worry, these people are fundamentally not interested in cooperating." I thought when Tom Tancredo's bid to be the GOP nominee fizzled in 2008, we were past the visceral hatred of immigrants. Well, I was wrong. Maybe. We'll see. Conservatives talk about the left as if they are all insane, but I think their misguided attempts to roll back the clock will be exposed, somehow, as a malignant fantasy. Humans seem to have 2 competing instincts: conflict vs. cooperation. I hate to believe that future will be a planet dominated by openly anti-democratic "strongmen," but it seems were are moving that way. However, I suck at predicting the future. Also, I believe unintended consequences have a way of blunting the effect of any particular movement. My state went for Trump but also passed a fairly carved-in-stone guarantee of abortion rights, in some cases actually expanding on Roe v. Wade. I don't think it's possible to turn back the clock on "globalization" - IOW, recognizing the fact that the planet is actually one place, very close to being a contiguous land mass.

I don't understand the hatred of immigrants. The U.S. birth rate is down; so actually is Mexico's, although not quite as much as the U.S. Both are below replacement rates. We need more young people in the workforce but can't yet bring ourselves to legalize even the immigrants brought here as small children. The right cheers at "mass deportations." Trump will give them the optics they are looking for. But the nativist movement has a life of its own; it might have taken a Trump to consolidate that sentiment but nostalgia is apparently a hell of a drug. It's a losing cause, IMO, but I don't know if it will tip in my lifetime or not. On the other hand, it could all change tomorrow, or at least, the change might *look* sudden.

I mean, painting the border fence black? I made an unauthorized comment on r/conservative pointing out that gloves exist. Labor will migrate to find jobs and in many cases the fence is a tiny obstacle compared to what some go through on their journey north. And, I hate to generalize too much but overall I like immigrants more than the U.S.-born nativists who think that being born in a certain geographical area makes them superior and justifies their "screw the rest of the rest of the world" attitude.

scores will be settled. Things will get vicious.
Murdoch will try to reestablish itself has the Right Wing mainstream and might succeed with a much smaller audience.
Dems will again win elections because Republicans will just stay home in the absence of a potential God-King

I don't think so. Because the one thing that unites them, is the hate and disdain for the other tribe.
They are mostly stupid, but I fear, they won't be stupid enough to throw everything away that this administration laid as groundwork.

It will for him. And then he'll rise to sit at the right hand of Republican Jesus.
I don't understand the hatred of immigrants...
They aren't white. That's all. White northern Europeans are just fine.

As several others have said, Trump isn't the source of all the Republican craziness, he's the result of what's been building for decades. When he's gone, the ferver may subside a tad, but the authoritarianism won't.

Amazing, isn't it. Crime in the US is way down, the economy was doing great in 2024 (not so much now), and we just got a demonstration of how the economy would collapse if all the illegals were thrown out of the country.

You'd think the trumpkins would at least think twice when farms had to stop operate and harvests were left to rot in the fields when the raids began, but no, they're still all over the place bleating that 'if you're illegal you gotta go' and how illegal immigrants are suddenly such a national emergency that the US can't even give them due process because it seems to be vital to the very survival of the country that all of them are thrown out posthaste. I know they're in a cult and deep in information silos, but it's still just mind-boggling how their minds work.

Or don't work.

After Trump dies, they will build a pink granite mausoleum in DC, right next to the Capitol. In it they will put his preserved rotting corpse for public viewing, kept fresh with regular painting and facelifts, cooled by an old trawler's refrigeration plant. This will be maintained for at least a hundred years, until US President Putin IV, all hail his glorious name, demolishes it to make a rose garden.

Ridiculous! It'll be all gold!

It will be spray painted!
I expect any mausoleum for Trump will be sprayed with a huge variety of fluids besides just paint.

eta: Not to mention semi-solids.

eta2: Did you know that if you eat a lot of Froot Loops your poo can turn a very bright green? It's something about the food coloring used. Just an FYI.

It could be a public restroom. His honor demands something fitting of his character.

I don't think the loyalty is transferable, but clearly Vance is in the best position. We'll see how popular Trump is among his base in a couple of years.

The lack of priorities is what stuns me. ICE is busy creating the optics Trump supporters want to see; they love to see busboys in handcuffs, people grabbed off the street by the bad-ass man-in-black agency that I fear is going to draw the worst sorts with its supposedly expanded hiring. The usual checks in onboarding a new employee will fall away as Trump crows about new hires made. On the other hand he could just like about *that*. Use AI to create the visuals his followers want to see and they'll swallow it whole. Then use the money for whatever you want. No one will say anything.

Meanwhile rooting out actual criminals requires genuine police work. I'm sure there are organized crime rings operating with impunity while ICE conducts these pointless "raids." The people we're throwing out of the country might help us bust those kinds of operations. But that requires certain skills any goon they hire off the street is not going to have. I keep thinking ... while they go about their stupidity there are probably real criminals being released from U.S. prisons because ICE never comes for them. I don't know that this is happening but I strongly suspect it.

Paradoxically, fascist systems aren't centripetal, winding tighter around the central
Fuehrer. Rather, once in power, they're centrifugal, tending to fly apart
into pieces, little localized fascisms that can exist independently; this is because,
when "the Fuehrer is the law," there is no longer any law at all. We can see
this in the history of Italian fascism and of the 3rd Reich, especially the latter
because the rewards in an industralized country were so much larger than in poor old
rickety Italy or Spain or Portugal.

We can see this now in the devolution of the Trumpreich, where it's never been about anything at all
but the billions of dollars available to steal here in the richest country that ever existed. His participation
in the graft provides protection for the undergrafters.

When His Orangeness's shield is shattered, you're going to see the greatest scuttling and scattering of
roaches since May 8, 1945.
