This shouldn't be a surprise at all. The MAGA movement values loyalty to the cause (and of course to the leader) above everything else so it makes sense that they should appoint people from their most loyal cadre - those who took part in the January 6 peaceful self-guided tour of the Capitol Building.

Himmler, Goebbels, Göring et al were early and loyal recruits to the Nazi cause, very loyal subordinates to the party leader, and were rewarded with senior positions when the Nazis came to power.

We had the cane inflicted by the Headmaster or Deputy Head for major infractions and teachers could inflict lesser punishments using variously board rulers, gym slippers and various other weapons.

It never stopped us misbehaving.
I preferred a whack to after school detention, it was over and done with.

It's not about being effective, it's about boldly returning to the past (or at least a rose-tinted version of it) when women, n-words, fags, k-words, and all other minorities knew their place and acted accordingly.

I'm thinking he will declare martial law (or similar) right around mid-terms, maybe suspend them, or maybe just make it difficult to vote . . . in blue states and cities, of course.
