Trump's Second Term

Is there a "Dumb ◊◊◊◊ Trump genuinely seems to believe is true" thread? Maybe there should be.

It could have;
* the result of the 2020 election was fiddled and he really won it.
* violent crime in DC is at the levels of 30 years ago.
* asylum seekers come from lunatic asylums.
* other countries clear away brush from their forest floors to prevent forest fires.
* Haitian immigrants cook and eat their neighbours' pets.

Plenty more of course these few just came to mind first.
* Michael Douglas' character from "Falling Down" is a misunderstood hero just having a bad day.

Poor Donald, having to see homeless people on his way to the golf course.

"For the president, this is something that hits home, because he is a visual person and the visuals of him driving to his golf course and seeing those homeless encampments"

Imagine if he felt compelled to do something to help them.
I'm kidding, obviously.

The visible fact of so many homeless people is intolerable. Make them invisible and the problem is solved. Out of sight, out of mind.

"Questioning the veracity" of crime statistics is a bland nothing. It's not evidence of an emergency which entitles the president to put troops on the streets.

How is anyone okay with this?
That's how I've always seen it, but I'm not a constitutional expert.
Neither are a majority of the members of SCOTUS apparently.

Sure, maybe an antidemocratic party getting controlbover the government won't topple democracy. Checks and balances ed. I'm just pointing out that in the first past the post system it is easier for parties representing a minority of the voters to gain mandate like the GOP in the US is now abusing.

Or, perhaps, an undereducated and ill informed populace leads to turkeys voting for Christmas.

If the billionaire owners of the press want a thing, then that thing will happen. It may take a little time to shift the overton window sufficiently, but they'll get what they want in the end, they always do.

Democracy with a biased press and a poor education system is just an interesting lesson in how to get people to advocate against their own best interests.

ANd a reminder to some here who seem to be taking great schafreude about what is happening in the US that if Democracy goes under in the US, every Democracy in the world is on the endangered species list. If it can happen here, it can happen anywhere.
I suggest of the Euros here look at the support extreme right wing parties have gotten in the last few elections,
The UK's departure from the EU and the subsequent consequences has acted as a salutary lesson for other Eurosceptic countries and parties.

Yes, the apparent descent of the US into apparent authoritarianism is very worrying but it doesn't necessarily follow that other countries will do the same.

Of course if the US actively works to destabilise other democracies and/or steps aren't taken to counter the effects of the oligarch class to undermine democratic institutions then all bets are off IMO.

I was driving through Iowa Sunday. Trump actually had to see "windmills" but no whales when he flew to Cedar Rapids or Rochester and had to be driven to Dubuque.

It seems Donald didn't pick "Too Late" Powell, some other loser Donald made Treasury Secretary pushed him on Don.
And he's going to start a lawsuit against Powell him for spending too much on a building.

If the economy is "soooo good," why do you need to lower rates, Mr. Economic Genius?

Donald J. Trump
@realDonaldTrump
Jerome "Too Late" Powell must NOW lower the rate. Steve "Manouychin" really gave me a "beauty" when he pushed this loser. The damage he has done by always being Too Late is incalculable. Fortunately, the economy is sooo good that we've blown through Powell and the complacent Board. I am, though, considering allowing a major lawsuit against Powell to proceed because of the horrible, and grossly incompetent, job he has done in managing the construction of the Fed Buildings. Three Billion Dollars for a job that should have been a $50 Million Dollar fix up. Not good!

If?!?!???

The US has a long and storied history of undermining democratically elected governments in favour of authoritarian regimes.
True, but IMO it would be a step further to actively agitate to topple the UK, Canada, Germany or France government and encourage an authoritarian regime in their place rather than doing the same thing in the developing world.

In contrast Democrat Rep Sean Casten says he only felt unsafe on Jan 6

Sean Casten
@SeanCasten
I walk home every night after votes. Other than Jan 6, I've never felt unsafe in DC. Then again, I don't hang out with Gaetz, Jordan, nor the convicted felon at 1600 Pennsylvania. But if that's your statistical sample I can see how you might erroneously extrapolate this way.
