The rest of the sentence makes nonsense of your claim. They won according to the rules, then flipped the table and rewrote the rules? You make no sense that way.

Maybe leave aside the metaphor, and tell us what you think happened, in its own terms.
You're confused about whom you're addressing; it wasn't my claim.

I'm pretty sure the "rules" refer to rules of *campaigning*, not of counting votes.

Perhaps the reason the claim seems like nonsense to you is because you misunderstood it.

What game were they allegedly not playing?

If the game was electioneering (which makes sense given the OP) I'd say they played it pretty well except that they ought to have won by more against a weak incumbent administration.

Zohran Mamdani is Taking on a Corrupt Campaign Finance System (Bernie Sanders on YouTube, July 10, 2025 - 16:01 min.)
10:12--> But it is not just Musk, and it is not just Republicans. This system, political system, campaign finance system is just unbelievably corrupt and it impacts the Democratic party as well. Let me give you a few examples of how big money and a corrupt campaign finance system impacts Democrats.

While outspent by Republicans, over 80 Democratic billionaires, 80 Democratic billionaires donated tens and tens and tens of millions of dollars to help elect Kla Harris to be president of the United States. HILITE]I personally, many of you know, worked very hard trying to get her elected.[/HILITE]
But what ended up happening is all of that money from all of these billionaires heavily influenced her campaign. So instead of running a campaign that took on powerful special interests and made it clear that she and the Democratic party were going to stand with a working class which is struggling terribly right now, instead of saying, 'I am with you. We're going to take on these billionaires,' she ran a campaign designed not to antagonize the business community or the oligarchs. In fact, as some of you may recall, one of her main spokespersons was the billionaire Mark Cuban.

And that is why it was an grave mistake when Bernie Sanders "worked very hard trying to get her elected."
He was old enough to know better, but at least he seems to have understood it now.

Mistakes were made, but not by Biden or Harris or the Democratic Party itself:

Top Democrats said they did not intend for the report to address strategic decisions made by leaders of the Biden and Harris campaigns. Indeed, in a sign of the report’s narrow scope, more than half a dozen people who were senior officials on the campaigns say they have not yet been interviewed.

People briefed on the report’s progress said they had been told it would focus more on outside groups and super PACs that spent hundreds of millions of dollars aiding the Biden and Harris campaigns through advertising, voter registration drives and turnout efforts.
As the Times slyly notes, this is comparable to an autopsy that begins by ruling out the most likely causes of death.

The obvious cause of death was (and is) trying to become an alternative Republican Party: Let's drill, baby, drill, stick with the Zionists, avoid criticizing the oligarchs (don't bite the hand that feeds you), and let's pretend that the pandemic is over, so we don't upset any GOP voters.
Let's wait it out until Republicans get sick and tired of Trump and come to us instead.

The Democratic Party simply refuses to be the opposition to Trump's GOP. Instead, it presents itself as the better GOP and opposes the Democrats who are actually gaining ground against MAGA, people like AOC, Bernie Sanders, Mamdani, and maybe even Elizabeth Warren, who seems to be coming around.

Democrats Get Lowest Rating From Voters in 35 Years (WSJ, July 25, 2025)
The Democratic Party's image has eroded to its lowest point in more than three decades, according to a new Wall Street Journal poll, with voters seeing Republicans as better at handling most issues that decide elections.
Lucky for Democrats, they picked the least-worst time to be unpopular (WaPo, July 29, 2025)
If you’re a Democrat, headlines don’t get much grimmer than the one spurred by the Wall Street Journal’s most recent poll: “Democrats Get Lowest Rating From Voters in 35 Years.” A June YouGov poll found a similar result, reporting that “Americans view congressional Democrats as unfavorably as they ever have in any polls in the past four years. 30% of Americans have a very or somewhat favorable view of Democrats in Congress, while 62% have a very or somewhat unfavorable view.” And in March, a CNN poll found “the Democratic Party’s favorability rating among Americans stands at a record low.”

Mamdani leads among Jewish voters, though there are clear dividing lines by age and denomination.
Mamdani wins majority support among reform/non-denominational/secular/non-practicing Jews & Jews under age 45.
Cuomo wins a plurality of conservative/orthodox Jews and Jews age 45+

"Mamdani leads among Jewish voters"Read that sentence.
Read it again. Read it one more time.
And then ask yourself about the horrifically bad media coverage you've been getting on this guy and on this race from the legacy media in recent weeks.

Ya, it also seems Cuomo's support among black voters is mirage as well. He apparently ran up the score with the over 60 crowd, who make up a disproportionate number of black voters in NYC vs nation wide.

The problem for Mamdani is not so much from Repugs, but that establishment Dems (of which there are just too many) will work to sabotage any chance he may have.

I was trying to think of a sports analogy for how bad Democratic leadership is right now and I think "striking out at t-ball" works pretty well.

I am not sure that it's more than rhetoric, but I hope so.

The Babylon Bee? Really?!
Democrats hate capitalism? Really?! I wish!!!
And they hate "hot chicks" just because they think that an actress posing as one in a jeans commercial is ridiculous?
And they hate Jews because they don't sympathize with a Zionist genocide og Palestinians in Gaza? Why blame Democrats for MAGA's inability to distinguish between Zionism and Semitism?

That doesn't work even as satire...which Babylon Bee purports to be. Its as if the right wing cannot do humour beyond the level of pointing and laughing at an old lady who slips on a banana peel.
