Trump's Second Term

They can’t even organise a ◊◊◊◊◊◊◊ march properly.

That song is one of the most blistering anti-war song of all time. A 12 year old would be able to work that out.

Was it slipped in between 'Born In The USA' & 'Six Weeks On Paris Island'?

Footage of US troops at the parade shambling along to CCR's Fortunate Son*. Is there a reason they're not marching in step?

* An anti-Vietnam draft protest song.
He posted the set list.
The band performing is The U.S. Army Band Downrange

Four Earth Wind and Fire songs at the start then
Hard to Handle
About Damn Time
Vertigo
My Hero
Barracuda & Magic Man
The Ocean
Jump
Fortunate Son
Enter Sandman
Sweet Child O'Mine
Right Now
Separate Ways
Be All That You Can Be

As for the marching in step.
It's difficult if the parade isn't at marching speed with band at the start setting the pace.
If it's a long parade you break it in to sections with a band leading the section.

Watch the Queen's funeral procession Coronation or the Coronation to see how it's done.

Before anyone says they are fighting soldiers not trained for marching in parades.
Watch any of the many videos on YouTube of British regiments 'homecoming' parades after returning from deployment in the Falklands or Gulf wars or Afghanistan.

Plus, they had many weeks to practice for this.

Well, the parade was announced a long time ago. Plus, shouldn't they be able to match anyway?
You can learn to match in step in half an hour.
There's more to it though, just walking in step isn't marching.

So the whole thing seems to have been rather shambolic and you wonder where all the money went? By which I mean which Trump crony pocketed it? And as far as music goes this would have been better, but pray no one shows Trump the video...

I wondered if it was an acoustics problem. Anybody choosing amplified rock music for a military parade could easily be naive to the the unique acoustic challenge of long marches. I've been at events where the organisers didn't account for the speed of sound and the beat of the music was indecipherable.

Which is why you practice marching and don't have amplified rock music playing and have bands marching and positioned so they can be heard but don't interfere with each other. It's not like it's a mystery.
They don't seem to have had any rehearsal at all.
They rehearse and pace out the route for Trooping the colour every year.

Who thought a PA'd live rock band was a good idea?

Commentary elsewhere suggests the shamble-march was a deliberate and "legitimate" way of flipping the bird at Trump. They were just going to walk past him, not march. It was clear they felt it was more than he deserved to use them as political pawns. "Happy Birthday Donny Now ◊◊◊◊ Off".

Also, every new recruit in the US military learns to march before they even graduate from training. And stand straight in lines, salute, ranks, etc. So these guys know full damn well how to keep in step together.

If that's the case, it's a good reminder that the military isn't fully behind Il Duce Arancione. I love it.

And for anyone interested seeing people being able to march while accompanying artillery search "Royal Navy field gun competition video".

At the rally I went to in Nashville, TN, someone was playing a rather patriotic song by Phil Ochs, “Power and Glory”.

Here is a land full of power and glory
Beauty that words cannot recall
Oh, her power shall rest on the strength of her freedom
Glory shall rest on us all
Yet she's only as rich as the poorest of the poor
Only as free as a padlocked prison door
Only as strong as our love for this land
Only as tall as we stand…

I was reminded of this one which seemed appropriate to Trump’s fiasco, “One More Parade”.
