Here is the difference.

The troops deployed at the capitol building were dealing with a threat to the very foundations of democracy in the United States. On the other hand, those deployed to California are there for much... murky reasons. It has more to do with Stubby McBonespurs wanting to prove how macho he is than any real defense of the United States.

I suspect people are more willing to endure hardships (such as sleeping on the floor) when there is a noble purpose in doing so. (I know the soldiers will still follow orders and "make camp" whereever ordered, but that doesn't mean they will be HAPPY about it.)

It's not a FOB in Syria.

Its also not a hotel, or a military barracks with beds/cots, or any one of a number of possible alternatives had the deployment been planned better.

Errr, not really. California did not really have a significant problem with illegal immigrants before Stubby McBonespurs came along. Were it not for him and his "round up all brown people" attitude, there wouldn't be any protests/riots. All Trump is doing by deploying troops is throwing more fuel on the fire.

I'm not sure if California did or didn't have significant problems with illegal immigrants. But I'm aware of two things:

• Both Biden and Obama before him deported millions of illegals. From what I could tell, they did it without using heavily armed and masked ICE agents backed up by local police, and the detainees were afforded due process.
• There do not appear to be significant raids like the ones in New York and California being carried out in states that voted for Trump.

The California governor blasted Trump amid the president’s deployment of National Guard troops to the Los Angeles area.

LOS ANGELES — California Gov. Gavin Newsom said Donald Trump’s threats against him and other Democrats following the president’s unilateral deployment of National Guard troops to the Los Angeles area carried all the markings of authoritarianism.

“It’s just an extraordinary moment, and I don’t want to overstate it, but these are the words of an authoritarian,” Newsom said in a Monday interview with POLITICO. “Whether he acts on it or not, the chill that creates is real, and it’s a serious moment, very serious.”

Trump and his border czar have targeted Newsom and Los Angeles Mayor Karen Bass by name with threats of arrests — and other ominous unspecified acts to be carried out by the federal government if the two don’t fall in line. Newsom spoke after a weekend of unrest — property destruction and bursts of violence — following immigration raids in the region.

It's astounding to me that the whole of the press isn't calling him out on this ◊◊◊◊◊◊◊◊. It's total nonsense. The president of the United States is lying right in everyone's faces and it's screamingly obvious. How ◊◊◊◊◊◊ up is America now that he can get away with this? What has gone wrong? Being debated as we speak. The posse Comitatus law does not absolutely forbid the use of Regular Federal Troops to enforce civil law, but puts severe restrictions on it. Whether or not Trump had enough grounds for doing this is being hotly discusses.
But one biggied is that ever since the Civil War, Federal Troops this has been done only with the consent of the State and Local CIvil Authoraties.
This did not happen here.

WHich would be paraside compared to some places US Marines have slept in.
In the Army and the Marines, you learn to sleep on some pretty rough places. if you are tired enough..which you will be...it really does not matter.

The point is there's no need for them to be sleeping in rough places.
They are in LA not on the Western Front.
Don't the National Guard get sleeping mats or bags at least?
With a local deployment they should even have cribs.
