City of Glendale terminates ICE contract
The City of Glendale in California has announced that it will terminate its contract with the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) and Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE).
According to the release, the city has jointly operated a facility that houses federal immigration detainees with the DHS and ICE since 2007.
"The City recognizes that public perception of the ICE contract—no matter how limited or carefully managed, no matter the good - has become divisive,"
It adds that the decision "is not politically driven. It is rooted in what this City stands for—public safety, local accountability, and trust."

I don't see why the National Guard is necessary. The LAPD is perfectly capable of violent escalation on its own.

It only takes a few provocateurs to make a protest look like a riot. Takes so few it's all too easy for the provocateurs to be opponents of the protesters.
Trump's response isn't about fixing the problem, it's about performative overreach, escalation and the theatre of punishing the outgroup as harshly as he can, while trying to make those taking a more sensible approach look weak.
Protesters do not think they are the bad guys. They think they are morally justified in standing up and demonstrating opposition to an abuse of someone's rights. If the authorities get heavy-handed in reply, the protesters feel moral outrage that their legitimate expression of grievance is being oppressed and they feel justified in resisting that oppression. That's how incompetent policing turns a protest into a riot.
It's just protest policing 101. Doesn't matter what they're protesting about. Competent police know about deescalation and apply that rather than escalating the confrontation until they have applied sufficient violence to overwhelm the people. I've said it before, increasing the violence until you win isn't winning when you still have a city to police tomorrow. In this case thankfully the escalation is seen to be outsiders rather than the city cops. I hope it stays that way.
