Trump's Second Term

Is there such a thing as a DEI portrait?

Is the Smithsonian under the president's control?
Is this "firing" legal?

Donald J. Trump
@realDonaldTrump
Upon the request and recommendation of many people, I am herby terminating the employment of Kim Sajet as Director of the National Portrait Gallery. She is a highly partisan person, and a strong supporter of DEI, which is totally inappropriate for her position. Her replacement will be named shortly. Thank you for your attention to this matter!

With tears in their eyes.

Trump on the announcement he just made to increase steel tariffs to 50%: "I said to the group, 'Would you rather have a 40% increase?' Because I was thinking about 40 when I came. I said, 'Would you rather have a 40% or a 50%?' They said, 'Well take 50!' ... so congratulations."

Trump: There will be no layoffs and no outsourcing whatsoever and every U.S. Steel worker will soon receive a well-deserved $5,000 bonus.

I'm looking at these giant guys with giant arms. You are not going to like doing chips.

According to his Secretary of Commerce, they're going to be doing screws.

Same thing with the 1000 crosses at the "burial sites" of white farmers who were victims of a "white genocide" in South Africa (which, IIRC, weren't burial sites or even in SA), or the MS13 photoshopped onto Abrego Garcia's knuckles- surely, by now (or even by then), someone had told Trump the truth about those things. But Trump is just a stupid man, and the worst kind of stupid- he's apathetically stupid. complacently incorrect and ineducable. He has everyone who is able and/or willing to set him straight on a sort of conceptual "ignore" list.
He's also a habitual liar who knows his followers are unthinking cultists (and as stupid as he is). With Dump, remember to never attribute to stupidity what can be adequately explained by malice.

To put it another way, Wall Street calls it TACO trading. trump no like:

I'm not sure "let's make fun of Trump for always chickening out until he doesn't out of spite" is such a great idea.

But then Wall Street traders do tend to be sociopaths who wouldn't mind setting the world on fire, if they can make a quick buck shorting lighter fluid.

Because, in a healthy democracy like ours that totally isn't sliding into fascism, it is perfectly normal for private citizens to have to worry about whether their use of facetious nicknames might irritate the President.

I suppose it's up to you to make up your mind: Do you think we're in a situation where the nation's investment banking industry is possibly goading the head of state into imprudent decisions just to prove them wrong?

If you don't, great. We can breathe a sigh of relief. Wall Street and the president can both carry on.

If do, then mocking me for calling it out is a pretty irrational and willfully ignorant response. Why so unserious? Do you not believe the danger is real?

I think that the President is a grown man with a responsibility to act statesmanlike, and I refuse to normalize his apparent inability to do so. I have to wonder why somebody would vote for him in spite of realizing that he will never do this.
