Someone should put a stop to stories like these. What is so important about this woman having her 12th Child? The mother will be in her late 70 -- if she makes it -- when this kid is ready to graduate from highschool. And, suppose she dies earlier? How can that be good for the kid?

How can this be good for the mother? This is unnatural, they will have pumped her full of chemicals to get this result...putting her life in future danger for what? For a 12th child?

God, Ed, I hate stories like this. It seems somehow demeaning of women, their only utilty is as mothers and when they can nothat women who do all of this chemical monkying around to have kids post-menopause must think so.

I was going to say that I am surprised that there are doctors that would perform in vitro fertilization on a 62 year-old diabetic grandmother.

But then I remembered what a crazy world we live in.

62 year old people have sex? Oh......yuck!!!

Double standard

Men have children at ages 62 and up all the time. No one bats an eye.

Now, that being said, I've seen pictures of the woman. Grody.

How much you want to bet she's one of these types who will say it was "God's will" too?

lol
And it'll be the same people who say that doctors are "playing God" if they do something they don't like. It seems pretty clear to me that their god puts a timetable on women's reproductive ability, so who are we to mess with that?

I do. I bat an eye. I think it's just as wrong for a 62-year-old man to father a child as it is for a 62-year-old woman to pop one out.

What disturbed me was her comment "I hate to raise one alone, without a sibling". It sounds like when people recommend you get two kittens instead of just one, so it will be socialized.

Everytime I hear about some elderly man siring some youngster on a trophy wife...I feel intensely sorry for the kid. Tony Randall and James Doohan are great example. Both died in their 80s leaving very young children. How sad for the kids...how did they, as father's think that was going to work? Yes, fortunately, in this example, the families were likely taken care of, but I wonder if the kids would rather have had a functioning dad...

On a different level, it is a biological difference between men and women. Certainly it is arguable that if men can have children at that age, and the science allows woment to as well...okay than. However, I suspect the biological clock plays a role that we should consider and honor. There is a reason that nature doesn't want women to have children past a certain point...childbirth is dangerous as it is and abstractly, humans (in nature) likely wouldn't live long enough to provide the years of care that small humans need...or something biologically driven like that.

My biggest problem is that for too many ...like aging movie stars...this seems to be about proving that they are still vital humans. This is the result of both sexism and ageism, IMOl....How can I be too old to play the part? I just had a baby!

Further, we have enough teenagers bringing kids into the world as single parents...do we really need a lot of grandmother/mothers? How will this woman ever retire? If she was the main bread winner, how could she ever think of slowing down?

I don't know, rambling here, I just think this is screwy...far worse than cloning. Ban this, Mr. Bush, leave cloning alone.

Rant over.
