Was that true or was it faked?

I'm a professional engineer. I've been doing digital forensic photographic analysis and interpretation since the mid-1990s, including for forensic engineering investigations, and to provide evidence that has occasionally found its way into court.

You have no idea what you're talking about. None of what you're doing here bears the slightest resemblance to any technique for detecting manipulation of images or ascertaining image authenticity. It's amateur knob-fiddling.

As I look at the adjustment curves you seem to be applying, you appear to be manipulating the luminous intensity of images in a way that results in an absurd degree of contrast contraction across a narrow range of intensities. This is giving you a false edge. It is an effect caused by your manipulation, not revealed by it.
