General UK politics VIII - The Last Tory

Darren with his 'staff'

He's a ward councillor for Annfield Plain. That's it. He won't be turning back the boats or rooting out 'woke'.
He will be answering letters from pensioners complaining about dog crap, missed bins, rubbish dumped in alleyways and faulty streetlights.
He also now has a Code of Conduct which he won't bother to read, as well as committee papers to study and actually turn up to meetings if he can be bothered.

Newly elected Reform Councillors seem to be having a hard time understanding that Councillors don't have employer rights over officers.

You don't have a right to undermine the will of voters who voted Reform. You WILL cut your departments, you WILL work in an office, you WILL cooperate when illegals need removing and you WILL do all of this with a smile. Simple as

Did he reserve a role for his favourite sock?

I believe the journalist (and it's nice to use the word without scare quotes) behind the Eye's "Rotten Boroughs" is retiring. I hope his successor has plenty of stamina as I suspect Ian Hislop will be able to count on him for half the magazine's word count.

Reform controlled councils will move at great speed to see that all its hiring is merit based and colour blind.
Reform controlled councils will be where DEI goes to die. 🇬🇧

Gorgeous George says it's all Starmer's fault so vote for Nigel, or something

We have fundamental disagreements with #NigelFarage and #Reform and not only on race. On #UkraineRussiaWar on #Israel on the privatisation of the #NHS to name just three.
But Farage isn't killing the #NHS #Starmer is.
Farage didn't kill our Steel Industry Starmer did.
Farage didn't close our Oil Refinery Starmer did.
Mad Milly and the #NetZero economic suicide mission is not a Farage but a Starmer spasm.
Farage didn't steal our Pensioners Cold Weather Payments Starmer did.
Farage didn't steal our billions and send it to #Ukraine Starmer did.
Farage isn't bombing civilians in #Yemen Starmer is.
And Farage isn't killing kids in Gaza STARMER IS!

Starmer on the recent election

Keir Starmer
@Keir_Starmer

Most Prime Ministers would respond to these local elections with the same old excuses.

My response is simple: I get it.

We’re moving in the right direction, but people must feel the benefits of change.

I will go further and faster to make that happen.

Reform has plan to get asylum seekers out of hotels in their council areas. They will remove hotel licenses forcing them to close unless they remove any asylum seekers staying there.

I look forward to watching them cut themselves off from the millionaire donors who've profited so greatly from the Tory policy of shoving Asylum Seekers into hotels and never processing their claims.

Reform Councillor John Doddy, "DOGE style efficiency, but not in the same sense as Elon Musk"

"The people of Nottinghamshire give us their tax money and we promise to do things for them in return"

"We can do it better"

"There is a good Brexit but it goes to another school"

"There is a good DOGE but it goes to another school"

If Reform Ltd councillors and MPs want to save public money I can think of a way they could save literally hundreds of thousands of pounds a year of waste and inefficiency with one simple resignation letter each.

UNISON not going to roll over for him.

UNISON - UK's largest union
@unisontheunion

Christina McAnea: Disappointing but not unexpected that Farage thinks he can immediately threaten local government workers in the councils Reform will control.

Think again - this isn’t the USA - we have laws that protect workers, and strong unions that will ALWAYS stand up for their members.
