Trump's Second Term

Somebody said it better.

He doesn't care about the "losers" and "suckers".

Well, the British press is making a big deal out of it............
The same tabloids that push UFOs, Nessie, and Footy scandals?
Most British press seems to be either Murdoch-owned and spruiking all the usual far-right propaganda, or they have soft-core porn of some ample girl's knockers. Or both. Fish-and-chip wrappers, the lot of them.

Yeah but in exchange he'd want a name change on a piece of Indian real estate: The Trump Taj Mahal

I think it's too subtle and discreet for his tastes. Mind you after 400 years maybe it would suit a "Closed due to bankruptcy" sign?

The same tabloids who reported the two party system was dead and the future belonged to the brand new SDP in 1983.

These twats are just the performative cruelty wing of the Tory party in new rosettes, telling us how useless they were when they were Tories. Still useless, as they will now have opportunities to demonstrate.

Well, no, The Independant is moslty owned by Evgeny Lebedev, the son of Alexander Lebedev, a Russian banker and former officer of the First Chief Directorate of the USSR's KGB...

Now Reform have got their wish it's going to be interesting to see which way they jump, slash local services, raise council tax or in best Faragist tradition just not show up. Making promises you can't keep is fine if you've got the top job you're after before you need to make good on them, but Farage may have peaked too soon.(Shudder). Obstructionism and non-attendance played well to the perpetually angry when they were in Brussels, but when the bins aren't collected they'll quickly find themselves on the receiving end of that anger.

I see Trump is having a military parade on his birthday.
Mussolini would be proud.

The presumption among the Framers was that there would be enough institutionalism in the system even in bad times that bad actors would be outnumbered and outgunned by those interested in protecting constitutional norms. They may have contemplated a wholesale descent into despotism, but I imagine their solution to that was another rebellion. Keep in mind that to those people, that wasn't as farfetched as it may seem to us today, far removed from such things.
The problem with the US constitution was that it was designed to protect against democracy; can't let poor people have a say, they may want to rebalance wealth. I would bet that most of the framers would be at least neutral towards Trampy, given that he protects the interests of the ultra rich.
