Trump's Second Term

With all of that being said, there was no reason for Putin to be shooting missiles into civilian areas, cities and towns, over the last few days. It makes me think that maybe he doesn't want to stop the war, he's just tapping me along, and has to be dealt with differently, through "Banking" or "Secondary Sanctions?" Too many people are dying!!!

and this is a particularly egregious thing to say

In a bit of positive news that's unfortunately unusual for this thread -

Trump administration reverses controversial termination of student visas
The visa terminations sparked more than 100 lawsuits from students who feared immediate deportation. Judges blocked the terminations in many cases and questioned the administration's blanket move.

Widespread resistance to the Administration's absurdity have won a victory, at least for the time being. The damage done would take time to undo even if the Administration acted seriously to correct it, however, and actions speak far louder than their words. There's still need to hold them to sanity, but this is a very good step.

Things are not going great for Trump's Cabinet—or the Supreme Court

Duffy is now running around yelling about the amount of crime on subways and saying he’ll withhold federal funds from New York unless authorities can prove the subways are safer. It’s unclear how New York could prove this to Duffy’s satisfaction, particularly given that crime on the subway has been decreasing.

Things took a hilarious turn on Wednesday night when the Department of Justice attorneys handling the case accidentally filed with the court an internal confidential memo that outlined how terrible the DOT’s position is. It’s 11 unrelenting pages of legal analysis torpedoing Duffy’s stance, calling it “contrary to law, pretextual, procedurally arbitrary and capricious, and violated due process.” Ouch.

A sane administration might take this opportunity to figure out a way to exit the case gracefully after having its confidential legal strategy, or lack thereof, revealed as completely indefensible.

But this is the Trump administration, so it has responded by sidelining the attorneys who wrote the memo and developing a conspiracy theory that the attorneys intended to hurt the attempt to end congestion pricing.

Talk about government waste that would be easy to get rid of and hey, legal costs based on insane politically motivated maneuvers should be an easy and good target to reduce government waste.

There's more at the link that touches on other BS, including developments like how the Trump Administration is making a mockery of the Supreme Court's deportation decision -

The court said the notice “must be afforded within a reasonable time and in such a manner as will allow them to actually seek habeas relief in the proper venue before such removal occurs.” Detainees can only challenge their removal by filing a writ of habeas corpus and arguing they are being unlawfully detained.

Guess what the Trump administration has decided is a reasonable time? Twelve hours. Yes, after ICE scoops someone up and informs them they’re about to be sent to El Salvador, they have 12 hours to indicate they want to file a habeas petition. If they don’t do that in 12 hours, they get deported. If they do say they want to file a petition, they get 24 hours to file it. If they don’t, they get deported.

This short a timeframe would be ridiculous for even the most well-connected detainee, particularly given that the administration likes to arrest immigrants and then immediately move them to another state—usually Louisiana.

Yeah, that's pretty much a mockery, right there.

Another BBC article normalising the behaviour of the Trump administration by asking various Trump supporters how he's doing. Unsurprisingly, the results are positive.

It seems that many of those seeming to be voting against their own interests:

The anti-migrant migrant:

The issue is important to Luiz, a Brazilian who came to the US legally in the 1980s and now lives in Nevada. Echoing Trump, he describes the influx of migrants in recent years as an "invasion".

Luiz, 65, says Trump is telling undocumented immigrants: "This is my house, my yard, and you're not going to stay here."

The woman who wants white men back in charge:

She wants a "merit-based society" and praises Trump's rollback of Diversity, Equity and Inclusion policies which had tried to boost minority representation and tackle discrimination. Critics say those policies are themselves discriminatory

The trucker who doesn't understand tariffs and who has no idea about what other countries think of the US:

Despite economists' concerns about higher prices, Ben believes the businesses he delivers to will benefit in the long run.

"Trump has earned back the respect [for the US]," he says of the president's tariff policies. "We are still the force to be reckoned with."

The person who relies on Social Security who wants welfare reduced for (other) people:

She previously told the BBC she was concerned about welfare spending and hoped Trump would push Americans to be more self-sufficient. While she is happy with the cuts so far, she hopes they leave alone social security - the monthly government payments that she and 67 million retired or disabled Americans live off.

Donald upset by the New York times it seems
Why doesn't this lightweight reporter say that it was Obama who made it possible for Russia to steal Crimea from Ukraine without even a shot being fired
Does anyone else remember a really weird moment in Trump 2016 campaign when he mentioned Crimea? He was ranting about the media at one of his rallies and how they lie about everything, and he listed two or three standard Republican gripes, 'they lie about X, they lie about Y'. I forget what they were, but I think they were quite predictable domestic affairs. And they he said 'and they're lying about Russia in Crimea'. This was the first time I'd heard anyone claim the 'little green men' thing was a hoax and it seemed like a complete non-sequitur in his speech, and an issue about which his rally audience wouldn't care in the slightest. It didn't get a whoop or a cheer. A colleague also saw it, and said 'what the hell was that?' It seemed at the time like trying to inject a narrative on somebody's behalf.

So, Trump's latest approval ratings are 39%.

Let that sink in.

ALMOST 40% OF AMERICANS THINK HE IS DOING A GREAT JOB!

America, what is wrong with you???!!!
They're a literal cult, that's what's wrong. Perhaps the biggest in history, I tried Googling world's biggest cults but Google is increasingly useless and didn't give me anything close to what I asked for.

Donald is after the Suez Canal as well as the Panama now it seems.

Donald J. Trump
@realDonald Trump
American Ships, both Military and Commercial, should be allowed to travel, free of charge, through the Panama and Suez Canals! Those Canals would not exist without the United States of America. I've asked Secretary of State Marco Rubio to immediately take care of, and memorialize, this situation!
