Cont: Electric Vehicles II

I'm not that up on the details. Just speculating.
Tesla seems to be in the process of moving away from being a global car manufacturer. Their only new platform for the best part of a decade is the Cybertruck - a US only model - and their focus appears to be on self drive software, mythical taxis and robots.

That seems to be a fair assessment. But on the other hand you can't turn round without tripping over one around here, and the people who have them seem to love them.

The Sun says it is coming to the UK: https://www.thesun.co.uk/motors/34437995/cybertruck-elon-musk-bills-tesla-motors/

Obviously a PR placed article. I can't see how it could pass UK safety regulations given its construction, would have thought it would require a lot of re-engineering. For instance pedestrian safety - what protection is there for pedestrians in a collision? It seems almost designed to be dangerous to pedestrians!

It's a puff piece. There has been talk of a Europe-legal Cybertruck, but it's going to need a lot of alteration. The rest of it is all about it having VtG, which is fine, but it's hardly the only car to have that. And quite how that's going to "end household bills" remains unexplained.

Having an EV can get you extremely cheap electricity, having solar as well can make it free, and having a large amount of electricity parked in the garage can be extremely useful in a power cut. Even VtL, which my el cheapo car has, will do the job. You don't need a Cybertruck to do any of it. And besides, who wants to drive anything that ugly?

VtG has a lot of potential, but in the medium term once a lot of cars have it. One or two Cybertrucks aren't going to make any difference.

LOL- if The Sun says it- its almost guaranteed not true....
(did they squeeze it in between 'I'm having Bigfoots baby' and 'Trump- God/Emperor or Emperor God???')

In review, The Sun is a classic trashy tabloid that features celebrity gossip, current events, and right-leaning news stories. There is significant use of sensational loaded headlines such as this: SPREADING LIES Trolls are claiming Meghan Markle’s pregnancy is ‘fake’ in outrageous conspiracy theory.

Politically, the paper has endorsed conservatives since 2010. The paper generally publishes sensationalized, misleading stories with a right-wing bias. Further, a Reuters institute survey found that 13% of respondents trust their news coverage and 64% do not, ranking them last in trust of the major UK news providers.

In other words, exactly the sort of trash article that would be printed about a piece of garbage 'truck' that has a worse 'lemon' rating than the Ford Pinto, built by a failing car company run by a megalomaniac hard rightwinger fascist.....

It would be far easier to change UK vehicle regulations. Maybe this could be a negotiation point for any US-UK trade deal

Regardless, it would be very niche in the UK. Pickups here are utility vehicles and a Cybertruck would be highly unsuitable.

Oh I'm sure the US would love to see the UK (and others) adopt far lower safety standards... hell they could start giving away high powered semiauto rifles if you open a bank account in the UK as well....
:ROFLMAO:

Regarding Tesla's new model(s).

According to the article linked below, Tesla is launching a compact crossover in 2025 for $25k.

Given that the article is from 2025, and Tesla is apparently touting for suppliers, I reckon there'll be considerable slippage in the schedule - if the mythical new model exists at all that is.

I'm seeing bumper stickers on Teslas in Washington State that say I bought the car before I knew that Musk was such an ◊◊◊◊◊◊◊.

It's fascinating watching Musk tear down his own brand.

The "reasonably priced Tesla" was supposed to be the Model 3, it failed to be reasonably priced

Stipulated at first it did not quite hit the $35k price it was floated at. That failure led us in 2018 to buy a Honda Clarity PHEV instead, at about $32.5k. And by the time we were ready to buy an AWD Long Range Model 3 in 2022 it was $52k in the colored wanted (red).

But to be fair, a Long Range RWD Model 3 is currently $42,490 before incentives. This at a time when the average new car price in the U.S. is $49,740. By that standard, I think it’s very reasonably priced.

The YouTube channel "Just Get A Tesla", run by a guy in Aberdeenshire who does a lot of business miles, has just rebranded itself as "The Tesla Question". He loves the car, but he's squirming over the association with Musk.

He has noticed it is already 2025?

I have just watched this video about four times, in absolute fascination.

It will henceforth be my go-to put-down for every idiot on Twitter who opines that my car is only good for local shopping trips.

There's an MG4 in town here, the owner is extremely happy with his- he's the one that 'used' to have a model 3 until a roo hit- after 6 months, it was STILL unrepaired and was in the end sold for parts 'as is' lol...
(last seen on the back of a tilt tray headed for Brisbane, bought by another tesla owner who needed panels as well- a notorious issue for Tesla in Australia- parts can take multiple MONTHS to arrive, if available at all...)

The BYD Atto3 that suffered a roo hit as well, well it was back on the road in less than two weeks...
